I have a vostroyan army (1k so far & very anti infantry, 70 models), and I was thinking of adding 10 rough riders....Any thoughts or opinions of them?

rough riders are great. They're one of many units and upgrades in the guard that's a little tricky to use, but when you use them right, they can have devastating results (think flamers, priests, meltaguns, etc.).

The only trick would be modelling them so that they look vostroyan, a task which I do not envy (but would be awesome sauce if you did it right).

i love rough riders!! i notice my enemy shoots them apart or thinks them as useless till they hurt a nasty unit of his. you really have to hurt the enemy on the first charge, i noticed if they dont do well on the first charge then they either die quickly as much as regular guardsmen or they just get stuck in prolonged combat. i only use units of 5 and haven't tried anything more than that. i really like them as a unit and think they end up having a lot of planning and interesting concepts that can be used. i like them for that reasoning.

Generally they are one shot wonder weapons if you ask me. Whatever they contact dies a horrible, messy death but they tend to get shot to pieces afterwards. A unit of say 8-10 does the trick nicely and keeps your opponent always looking over his back for where they will strike.

My experiences haven't been great with Rough Riders, but I think I just didn't use them correctly. IMO they are good for a decent, one-shot disposable unit vs expensive enemy troops. I ripped apart a squad of Terminators, think I got them down to 5 units down from 10. Don't expect them to live after that. As far as theme is concerned, I think they are fantastic.

Divine Crusaders - 5000pts
Order of the Argent Shroud - 3500pts
Kabal of the Black Heart - 3000pts
Wife's Deathskulls - 4000pts
