Alright anyone out there know how to strip a mini of its poor paint job...

I just bought a buddies army from him since he was getting out of the table top gaming scene, (because his wife no longer approved of his ever cluttering hobby)

His painting skill where lacking, most of the mini's are gritty, or have bad brush strokes in the paint job

So i need advice on removing the paint from plastic and pewter mini, possibly some of them with protective coating.

Superclean or purple power (auto parts stores- or the auto section of walmart) give great results on metal & plastic- theyre bio degradable and dont stink(they are potent though- and are mildly corrosive to skin- so wear some gloves and eye protection). Soak them for a few hours- attack with old toothbrush. If the paint doesnt fall right off- give it a day to soak. Repeat.

Simple green is the next option.

Just dont use brake fluid. It works, but its toxic and messy, and more expensive(yet some people still swear by it for some reason).

Dunno about if they're sealed, but unprotected models can be stripped by using Simple Green.

Just dunk them in a Simple Green solution and wait for awhile, then brush off the paint with a toothbrush.

Other products also work; but be aware some can damage or destroy models. I suggest Simple Green only because I have used it myself and I can attest that it works.

I've used dot4 brake and transmission fluid on plastics AND metals that were both primed with an enamel based auto primer and it removed all the paint with no damage to either the plastics (figure or base) or metals.

It is more problematic to use (can't just pour it down the drain and you do need to wear gloves) than simple green, but sometimes it's the best option available.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

God, there must be a 100 threads about this. Just soak it in Simple Green and scrub it with a toothbrush, as Xca|iber said.

Dettol Antiseptic is the best the Original stuff.

Inside that little light in your refridgerator

If you're in the UK and stripping from plastic, I strongly recommend this stuff.

It takes the paint off after a few minutes of soaking and won't eat the detail.
