8th edition is such a departure from 6.5, I mean 7th, that most (if not all) armies have special rules which now make no sense, do nothing, or are actively harmful to the army. This means that all the armies (except possibly Skaven & Beastmen) will need a reset, as was done with the Ravaging Hordes list at the start of 6th. I have heard that GW plans to do this via PDFs on their website, which will be put up the day the new edition is officially released.

Has anyone else heard this? If not, what have you heard? I don't want to start playing 8th until the army books are tweaked.

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

I heard that the PDF's are being released on the 6th, so people can read them etc before 8th is officially released...

The PDFs are being released on 15th July, day of release.

Yes, they will be errata, however they are NOT ravening hordes - it is not a rewrite of the army lists, just items such as adding Elite Army to DE/HE

Well since the 8th edition book is being released on the 10th of July, and GW said they are releasing the PDF's by the time the brb is released I doubt its the 15th.

Elite Army?

I made another mistake - elite army is probably not for DE...

The rule removes the no more than double rare / triple special choice restriction at <3k points; as it is DE can have 4 bolt throwers, HE only 2...

Oh, like the high elves need anything else. Not only do they strike first (not that that means as much as it did before), now they also effectively get Hatred most of the time, for the whold combat. Makes the DE 'Eternal' Hatred look kinda wimpy in comparison.

Vulcan, elves are squishy. They will suffer badly because now due to stepping up, everything will get to attack back (whereas typically, in the old edition, nothing did). Also, their warmachines are among the few in the game that did not get even slightly buffed.

Bad news for the skinny types. Fortunately, I play empire. My guys are just as bad as elves, or worse, but I get LOTS of them :-D

Well, they got buffed insomuch as those BT can now target those annoying cavalry and big nasties long before they used to be able to. Its the same general buff as everyone else got, but still...

As a Dark Elf general who just saw my (fluffwise) main opponent get my special rules only better (almost all the time rather than just the first round vs. most opponents) and keep their own special rules it kinda bugs me.

Here, here!

But more than that, I'd like to not be nearly as squishy if all my opponent's models are going to attack back after I get done obliterating them.

Im just Hopeing Wood elves get a little love.....Most of my army is now completely useless....The "Lore of Athe'loran" was allways pretty bad, but with the changes to magic, and them making the core lore lists really worth taking, including the "Signiture spells" and "Boostable" spells so if you really wanna just get one good spell off you can! It makes Wood Elf Lore even....well Worse! And now all skrimishers have to be Rank and File? no 360 degree line of sight? sure its "loose" and they keep the -1 to shoot at them but they do not get Rank bonuses in close combat even though they have to "Tighten" up rank before the charge? they are subject to all the negative things of rank and file exept free reforms whenever they want.....so yeah they can "Squeeze" threw terrien areas but thats just adding more movement to wood elves since all most all the good things in our army is skrimish! Waywatchers, Wardancers.....

Sure some things got a little better, Eternal Gaurd for one....and Treekin for two, but still on the all Wood elves took a swift kick to the ol twig n berries and i hope that a pdf or -something- is released to hopefully have me love them more....

and do NOT get me started on how my Fast calvery can get overrun almost Easily by other players.... 3d6 drop the lowest....grumble grumble. so much for the "run away to fight another day" thing

From everything I have seen wood elves have gotten a pretty good buff. You are competitive with something other than a spirits army. Your shooting is devastating.
