Sitting on the roof of my house with a shotgun, and a six pack of beers

Hi All

i'm sure this has been asked before but didn't jump out at me when I searched.

The guy I play most often was talking about getting himself a Warboss on a bike, and this started me thinking about the best way to counteract it. I've come up with a few ideas but wanted to know if there is some convential wisdom for beating him.

If i recall he's a WS5, S5, W3, T5(6) with PK I1 character with Sv 4+, Cvr Sv 4+/3+ (depending on turbo boosting) , InVSv 5+
please correct me if i'm wrong, as i've not played him yet. Even by himself he seems fairly hard for the same price as a hellhound and its got me worried.

Some ideas.

Ratling snipers - heard they are quite good vs MC, I know the warboss isn't and MC but he might as well be when he's on a bike, problem is he'd still get the 3+ coversave for turbo boosting or the 4+ from the smoke ork bikes kick up.

Plasma Guns - same as above really except the added disadvantage of gets hot.

Hydra - stops the turbo boost cover but not the smoke/dust.

HWS - use FoMT to make him retake his cover saves.

Demolisher - Go for insta death, cover problems again.

power weapons - either a large inf blob with PW or rough riders (slightly more likely to get the charge than a blob) avoids cover and armour.

So what do you all think? what's the best way to stop a warboss on a bike?

Feed him about a 20-30 man squad with a commisar. It will take him nearly the entire game to finish them off.

FRFSRF when he gets close to try and pop a wound or two, and his save isnt that great in combat so they might even kill him.

I hate hard counters. In a game of rock, paper, scissors, I hate playing any of the factions because no matter what you choose you might as well not deploy against your hard counter. I want to use a gun. Rock, paper, and scissors could all probably still beat gun, but gun will never feel like a game is a lost cause.

I've got a 20 man blob with commisar and 3 PW which I had pretty much decided to do that with I was just wondering if there was a better way, rather than having one of my troop choices tied up for most the game. Especially given his T and WS advantages it will be an uphill battle.

Did think about tarpitting him with the blob and then charging marbo in, 5 wounding on 2+ attacks WS 5 seemed like a good idea.

Use that psyker battle squad to lower his leadership and then shoot his unit till it fails its moral check and watch him run away. The best way to fight him is to not fight him at all.

Looking at the statline, I'd say he qualifies as a MC with regard to taking it down.

The main weakness he has is W3 with only a 5++. This means that you only need to get a few solid armor-ignoring hits in order to take him down. This means plasma, rough riders, or, as mentioned, blobs (preferably in power form).

Or yeah, 24 dudes FRFSRF at 12" should take it down in a single volley.

At the points we're currently playing I think he was going to run him by himself, which is a positive when it comes to kill him but I won't be able to get him to run.

sure does, annoyingly he's not an MC so can't use BiD on him. Real problem is he gets at least a 4+ cover save, that why I thought the power blob would probably be the best way to take him out.

manitcore. Its the bane of nob bikers. Wounds on a 2+ instant death, ignores armor save and can potentially ignore cover save. 1 shot 1 kill.

How does the Manticore potentially ignore an ork bike cover save? Either the 4+ for normal or the 3+ turbo-boost?

It doesn't.

Basically we're talking about a fast, high toughness, multiwound model with an invul save (sounds MCish)

... except in close combat.

As such, good close combat things will make him explode. I second the idea of a power blob.

Yeah the more I think about it more the powerblob seems like the only way to go, although it will be an uphill struggle. Any of you mathhammers out there know how long it would take a 31 man blob (3 sergeants and Commissar with PW) to take him down?

I would like to try rough riders as i think they would work well and because of the greater mobility they might be able to stop him getting the charge. Unfortunatly I don't have any so i'll have to stick with choking him with my dead
