Hi all,

Im thinking about starting necrons. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on such an endevor. I do have the codex and the minis look cool, though im not a huge fan of the monolith model. So, suggestions, tactics, etc?

Well personally i don't have necrons but my friend is going to start them so i researched on necrons for quite a bit for her lol.

I've found that most tactics include necrons moving as a line formation with a monoliths on the sides necron warriors behind them and maybe some immortals here and there.

Immortals seem to be a popular choice for necron players due to their weapon.

Wraiths are a less popular choice. Maybe cuz their CC abilities aren't quite up to match with most other units you'd face out there.

Basicly thats from my research so some other guy may have to explain the reasons for this cuz I don't have a codex on me and Im basicly sharing with your from what I manage to scroung up from threads and such.

From what I've seen though most tactics are line formations with monoliths acting as bait.

Get a Lord, foot or Destroyer to taste, and then get a couple of the Battle Force Boxes and you'll have most of what you'll need for a good starter army. Just add more Destroyers and Heavy Destroyers to fill up points if you don't like Monoliths.

I think i'll have a monolyth, as I think not having one would reduce my already low mobility. Was just saying im not a huge fan of the model for it, it could use a face lift.

so, Aduro, im guessing form what you've said that I need to have 40 warriors at all time for my army, is that mainly do to the phase out rule?

After i get back from work im going to try and figure out an idea for a list, then, before buying any minis, im going to test that list on a friend of mine that loves to play marines and Eldar.

Thanks for the help.

It's not that you need to have 40 Warriors at all times, it's just that you'll seldom need more than 40, and the Necron Battleforce Box is a Really good deal. ~30-40 is about my standard number of Warriors depending on the point limit.

Unless you know ahead of time that you're not really going to need very many Scoring Units at all. This year's `Ard Boyz preliminaries is a good example of this, where only having two more objectives than your opponent in the first round netted you your Major Victory, and the other two did not require Any Scoring Units. In such an environment I will take Immortals over Warriors.

Bah, Necrons are fine to get right now. You'll be hard pressed to win a lot of competitive events with them yes, but they're still a cool looking army that's fun to play. I'd rank them as my favorite.

Well, I have no Necron army but battled Necrons a lot in the past.
It appears that they are the worst army in the 5th ed, when it comes to competition.
But hey, if you play for fun, then it should be fine even if you might loose a lot.
Nevertheless, the fluff is fine (i.e. has place for improvement) and they might get a new codex, soon.
