Here is something I noticed in the BA codex, seems to me like a misprint but most of the rhino variants list a stormbolter as standard wargear and also list the option to purchase a stormbolter for 10 points. An error or can they really have two?

Yes, as can other codices as well.

I have never seen anyone run a rhino with two as the points are probably more useful elsewhere. You can move 6" and fire both but it's not that great. It would help to keep the tank lasting a bit longer due to having to take one more weapon destroyed before it is destroyed itself. I would rather use the points for an HKM.

True. I hadn't thought through the potential usefulness, I just had a gut reaction of "can that be right?"

Aye, it is right.

Useless, but right!

Don't underestimate the power of stormbolters - even just having one stormbolter adds just that little bit extra firepower. I've lost squad remnants and wounds off Bloodthirsters because of those few extra shots...

Gotta say that I prefer Chaos rhinos with Havoc Launchers, though.

gotta agree with you here. rhinos in my games tend to be low priority targets once unloaded of their squads outside of killpoint games. that extra stormbolter is worth it if you have the points; i've had the extra stormbolter kill that one extra model needed for a morale check or to simply wipe out a squad. i've also had that extra stormbolter prevent the rhino from giving up a KP a couple of times (when someone keeps rolling 3 and 4 on the damage chart, eventually bumped up to a 5). i don't take it in every game but i certainly have personally seen why someone would take it if they have the extra points.

And of course, BA Rhinos, being Fast, can still move 12" and fire both That's like, 2 Terminators, or 4 Tac Marines at 24"!

I agree, taking the extra wouldnt be useless at all. Im sure everyone of us has a story about loosing an HQ or that one more boy that made everything go bananas.

I don't, because I don't take an Extra SB on my Rhinos!

My Rhinos never fire anyway.
T1: Move 12", Pop Smoke
T2: If Alive, move 12" again. If Not, Footslog and Run.
T3: If Alive, Bail out and Omnomnomnom with Grey Hunters. If not, Just go Omnomnomnoming

But... wouldn't Storm Bolters qualify as defensive weapons, and thus be able to fire even if you moved 12 inches? Or did I misunderstand something?

For thirteen years I had a dog with fur the darkest black. For thirteen years he was my friend, oh how I want him back.

Unless you are fast, if you move Cruising Speed, you cannot fire, period.

and since we're talking about the BA Rhinos, they are Fast.

But wouldn't BA rhinos be moving flat out? Moving 12" and shooting is great but moving 18" is better.

Stormbolters on rhinos, i think i would spend the points somewhere else, a rhino moves 18, pops smoke, and then you either move again or jump out and ninja something with an assualt squad.
