This list is meant to go in friendly games at my LFHS or against friends, who play Orks, Tyranid and Tau. With that in mind if anyone has any critiques of my list please let me know. The Tyranid player is planning on doing mostly horde army and the Ork is planning a mix between green horde and Kan wall, the Tau player I'm not sure what his overall plan is atm.

Well right off the get go a Wave Serpent is better than the Falcon for dropping the fire dragons off and while it doesn’t fill the same role the wave serpent will ensure the dragons get to their target much more reliably than the Falcon will

at this point lvl i would have to agree...for a falcon to successfully deliver its payload it will require holo fields and spirit stones...otherwise a serpent is alot better

now i can see some problems with the list as it seems like your gonna be dealing with hordes...first off id drop the falcon for either a serpent or another prism. i prefer the prism...yes a serpent can get your dragons to where they need to be and maybe do enough to kill a MC or maybe a tank, but then thats it. they will die once they accomplish that task. while with another prism you can deal with any tank, MC, or horde with no problem even if its just a single shot thats linked between the 2 prisms.

also your scorpions, even if they get the charge they will be swamped rather quickly. if anything they would be the ones i would toss in a serpent if you went that route(and yes i know the obv. choice would be a serpent for the dragons). while with the serpent your scorpions would be able to give it the outflank rule which works wonders with them and will make sure they get into combat with less casualties by the time you get there.

and as for your pathfinders...they are nice for holding objectives but thats about it...with dealing with hordes your gonna want more shots. overall, more shots are more effective over a max of 5 ap1 shots. i can see the 5 shots maybe downing a MC but thats about it...even with pinning. i would suggest either a unit of guardians with a weapon plat or a full unit of avengers for the same price. and maybe take bladestorm on one...when used with doom it works wonders.

and for your game against tau, i think your list is good enough but would switch out the falcon for maybe a serpent.

Thanks for the input guys, I'm still using the Falcon at the moment because I've had the thing for years and recently got back into building an army, so I may as well use it for the time being. I'm already planning on getting a 2nd Fire Prism and Wave Serpents for my 1500 point army so I'll probably use them interchangeably for 1000 points. I am already going to purchase a second unit of DA and also interchange them depending on the opponent.

What weapons would you recommend for the Wave Serpent at 1000 points?

I always put EML on my serpents if i can afford it.

S8 AP3, standard krak missile for crisis suits, tyrannid warriors and light tanks.
S4 AP4 blast, pinning, better than frag, great versus orks, guants and fire warriors. and counts as a defensive weapon.

If you can afford the shuriken cannon upgrade get that to, those extra 3 shots can help.

Move 6" and fire.... plasma blast or krak from EML, and 3 S6 shots from the cannon
Move 12" and fire.. plasma blast from the EML and 3 S6 shots from the cannon

WLD: 221 / 6 / 5

5 Dragons 2011: 2nd Overall

I can pretty much assure you that they won't get to me turn 2, I'm the most experienced player of my group of friends that plays, and even then I'm not that great.

I'd be weary of this list. You're long range guns consist of a single falcon, a fire prism, and rangers, everything else has 18 or less.

You'll soon find that while Pathfinders are one of the best snipers of all the different armies, they are extremely cost inefficient. You pay 120 points for 5 shots, and you wound all targets on a 4+. Doom does help them dramatically, but at the end of the day they don't have a prayer at making their points back unless they are shooting at terminators, or MCs. Against hordes, their damage is negligible, and while they "can" pop a rhino... they are extremely ineffective against vehicle targets.

This list needs transports. Dire Avengers have excellent guns, but with onlyl 18 inch range, they need a wave serpent to help get the most out of shooting. On foot their short range, lack of heavy weapons, low toughness and mediocre armor save will leave them weeping.

if you are set on not using a serpent for avengers, I'd recommend fielding Guardian Jet bikes instead of Dire Avengers. twin linked catapults make up for bs3, and they can get a few shuriken cannons. I'd run a squad of 6, with 2 cannons, a warlock with a spear and destructor for 210 points. That will have similar fire power, more speed, better armor, and answer to tanks and hordes in cover.

Fire Prisms need to be taken in pairs or not at all. Part of what makes prisms amazing is their ability to link shots. you don't want to throw that away.

Try to fit runes of warding onto your farseer. 15 points for the best psychic defense in the game is too good to pass up in games over 500 points.

If you need points, I'd drop the fire dragon exarch, you should be able to get anti horde from other areas of your list, and that will get you points for upgrading other units, etc. I'd also second the idea of switching the falcon for a cheap wave serpent with tl shuri cannons and spirit stones. That will make a more effective transport for your dragons.

I'd drop your lone fire prism to afford some of these upgrades. Bring it back in higher point games where you can field at least 2. If you need even more points, you could probably drop one of your ranger squads. while holding objectives is important, I think you may have too many points fielded in units that don't do enough damage.

Here is my revised list, at the moment I'm not concerned with transports since I know that my friends don't have any used yet. I'll include Runes of Warding when one of my opponents actually uses a psyker, as it stands none of them are using any.
