This is from memory, but I can remember most of the game well enough.

2000pts

My Red Hunters with GK support:

two 6 member assault squads, each in their own razorback(stock)

Stormraven, extra armor, hurricane bolters, TL multimelta, TL lascannon

Furioso Lib Dread mounted in SR

Lib in TDA with stormshield, squad of 5 assault terms (3 TH/SS, 2 LC) mounted in Godhammer LR

Corbulo, GK Grandmaster, 4x GK terms mounted in Redeemer LR

I get no red thirst :(

Imperial Guard:

Infantry platoon with several meltas, one big clump of like 30 guys and a few other special weapons squads

3x Heavy weapons team with lascannons

CREED and a command squad with meltas

5 man stormtrooper squad with meltas

2 Chimeras, I think they may have started with guys in them? They didn’t do much

1 devildog (anyone know the rules for Melta Blast offhand btw?)

1 Leman russ Executioner (plasma cannon one) with melta sponsons

1 Leman russ Exterminator (TL autocannon)

1 Leman russ Vanquisher with Pask and heavy bolters (shoots a melta shell basically)

1 Manticore rocket launcher

We are playing on a 6x6 table with rough city terrain (imperial sector buildings kit, temple of the Aquila, statue, barricades, crashed Aquila lander). Game is objectives, with 3 objectives: temple of the Aquila in the middle, manufactorum on his side right, administratum on my side left. So basically the objectives are a diagonal line across the table. Pitched battle deployment, which he wins and elects to go first.

He sets up (and takes forever), and mostly castles on the objective in his deployment area. Manticore in back, tanks in the middle, vanquisher on the left of the board with devildog. Nearly all of his troops are entrenched around the objective (manufactorum).

I set up. LRs in the middle, slightly back from the edge of my deployment, as I was worried the devildog would scout move 18” then normal move 12” to be in easy melta range. RAS units in building cover, one started on top of the Administratum while the other could have made the distance easily on turn 1 to the center temple. Stormraven is held in reserve for edge deployment on my turn.

He makes his scout move, moving up his devildog to the temple, but hiding it around the edge where I can’t hit it. He infiltrates his stormtroopers right near one of my RASs. It’s looking bad for that razorback.

Turn 1

He fiddles around moving a few things in his massive troops deployment area (HWTs and other stuff) to better castle the objective, vanquisher moves over a bit to get a clear shot on the Librarian+ATs LR(GHLR). Stormtroopers move up beside Razorback in the building on my right.

Obviously, the stormtroopers melt the razorback, popping out my squad in the cover of the building. He neglects to assault them. Vanquisher takes a shot at the GHLR(lib has shield up in case), fails to do any damage (may have gotten shaken or something, nothing consequential). Manticore fires two rockets at LRR, fails to do anything.

My turn.

I move the RAS in my base objective around the other side to give it more cover, and hopefully open up some shots. Stormraven comes in, moves 18” on the left side of the table, ending behind the same ruins that my still-functional RAS occupies. LRs move up, GHLR 6 LRR 12. LRR is pretty hidden by the temple, while the GHLR is facing off with the vanquisher.

Double lascannons into vanquisher, does nothing. My assault squad that was unceremoniously dumped out of their razorback retaliates with withering fire against the stormtroopers, reducing them to 2 of 5 with bolt pistols. Nothing else has a shot. On my assault, the rest of the stormtroopers are destroyed, killed before they could attack.

Turn 2

He barely moves anything, except the devildog which sidles up around the edge of the temple so its turret can get a shot on the GHLR.

Another unexciting round of shooting. Vanquisher fails to do anything to GHLR, and neither does the devildog. Manticore rocket again fails to damage the LRR.

My turn.

Stormraven moves flat out 24” up the left edge of the board. RAS stays put in the objective. LRs move up again, now the LRR is totally obscured by the temple. Dismounted assault squad moves to the edge of the building, readying to run for the central objective in the temple.

Stormraven fires on the devildog with TLLC, fails to do any damage. GHLR fires both TLLC at the Vanquisher, again fails to do appreciable damage (yes, this was a very slow game to start, lol). Dismounted assault squad stays in cover.

Turn 3

He moves nothing, wanting instead to stay still to take full advantage of his vehicular weaponry.

Devildog fires melta blast and multimelta at GHLR, one pen, but the GHLR is only shaken. Vanquisher fires its turret and lascannon at GHLR, which are both shrugged off, one at least thanks to the shield save. Eradicator is out of range of the Stormraven, but the manticore manages a shot, but it veers off wildly, failing to do any damage to the SR. The executioner takes a chunk out of my dismounted assault squad, hitting all five with plasma templates. Thankfully, I am well in cover, but still lose 2.

My turn.

Stormraven moves flat out and is now hovering directly above the vanquisher. GHLR moves up and unleashes the lib+ATs. I dismount my remaining RAS, sticking them in the objective, and moving up the razorback for a bit of fire support. The LRR moves out from behind the temple, giving much needed cover to the remaining three assault marines that are making a mad break across open ground to the temple objective.

The stormraven roasts the vanquisher with its TLMM, but fails to do anything. GHLR shoots its exposed lascannon at the vanquisher, and does nothing. LRR fires its assault cannon into the mass of 30 guardsmen and inflicts 4 wounds.

The TDA librarian and assault terminators turn the devildog into slag, inflicting no less than 3 vehicle destroyed results.

Turn 4

He again moves very little, exterminator moves up to try and get shots on the stormraven.

Vanquisher switches targets to fire at the Stormraven, but a flat out cover save keeps it alive this turn. Eradicator gives it a good smack, shaking the crew. The manticore looses 2 rockets at the LRR, both of which fail to do damage. Heavy weapons team fires lascannons at LRR, and fail miserably.

My turn.

The stormraven deposits the furioso librarian dread before making a flat out move towards the other end of the table(his deployment edge). The librarian+ATs mount back up into the GHLR as it rumbles forward again, with the empty razorback at its side. LRR blazes forward 12 towards the mass of 30 guardsmen and chimera entrenched on his objective. The remaining 3 assault marines make it to safety behind the temple, well within striking distance of controlling the temple objective next turn.

Stormraven opens fire on the rear armor of the Executioner with its TLLC, lighting it off into a catastrophic 6” explosion. Too bad it wasn’t closer to his squad of 30. The dreadnought librarian sends a blood lance piercing through the vanquisher, but it fails to do any real damage. With the executioner gone, Creed and his cronies are totally exposed. Creed eats 2 wounds and loses his entire squad to fire from the heavy bolters on both the GHLR and the razorback. Assault cannon fire from the LRR rakes a chimera, but fails to penetrate.

The dreadnought librarian turns Pask and his vanquisher into a slagheap with crushing blows.

Turn 5

He moves his now 26 strong squad into cover behind the chimera, which was probably the worst mistake ever. A special weapons squad that was hanging out in the back near pask moves into firing range of the libby dread with 3 meltaguns. Creed dashes to cover, with one wound remaining.

The Eradicator knocks the stormraven from the sky with a volley of twin-linked autocannon fire and the Dreadnaught is reduced to a slagheap by 6” meltaguns. HWT hits the LRR with 2 lascannons, but fail to do any damage.

My turn.

GHLR moves forward and again unleashes the librarian and his terminators, to bring righteous vengeance upon the five guardsmen who destroyed the dreadnaught. Razorback moves ahead a bit to get a better shot on Creed. LRR plows over some area terrain to bring its flamestorm cannons to bear and unload Corbulo, the GKGM and his retinue.

Creed actually had a few members of his squad left, they are reduced to just Creed with one wound after the GHLR and Razorback both fire on them with their heavy bolters. Fiery death overwhelms the 26 strong guardsmen squad as the Flamestorm cannon from the LRR takes out 16 members in one blast.

The Librarian and his terminators decimate the 5 guardsmen who destroyed the libby dread, while on the other side of the temple, Corbulo and the GKT multi-charge into the guardsmen left from the Flamestorm blast, and a special weapons team. The guardsman that once numbered 30 now number 3 after the GKT attacks fall, and scoring no wounds of their own, break off and begin to fall back. The other multi-charged unit is wiped out.

Turn 6

Creed calls the fleeing 3 guardsmen back to the fight, and nearly everything remaining opens up on the GKT and Corbulo. Many wounds are made, and many saves preserve all members of the squad. An unlucky scatter of a manticore rocket lays waste to the remainder of a few special weapons squads. Corbulo, GKT and retinue are still whole, although the GKGM and Corbulo are both down to 1 wound.

My turn.

The LRR rolls up, lights up two guardsmen squads with flamestorm cannons, annihilating them both, then its multi-melta fails to do anything to a chimera close by. Creed is dusted by a lascannon blast from the GHLR. Corbulo and the GKT turn their bolters on the last member of a squad who had been decimated by the flamestorm cannons, and take him down.

We call it.

With another few turns I’m sure I could have routed what few squads were remaining in the final objective, but I had 2 and we were going into turn 7, and we figured that was plenty.

My opponent was unimpressed with the infantry platoon and plans to again bring melta-vets in chimeras for our next game. I guess the Stormraven did alright, but I imagine the same outcome would have happened to the Vanquisher given another turn; it did pull out a clutch rear-armor lascannon shot on the executioner though. I don’t think I’ll be putting hurricane bolters on it again, however. It seems to function much better at extreme range, taking open shots at armor. I’ll leave the dakka and anti-infantry to the Landraiders.

Next batrep I am going to try and take some pics.

We're usually pretty lax on the force org. They weren't in squadrons, although I'm sure he would have done so if I had of asked.

My condolences to your opponent for his list-building abilities. I'm sure the grief was what prevented him from moving.

Way to rightly flatten him.

Ailaros,
what would you suggest he run to counter me?

He has been trying several different builds to no avail thus far.

I have to admit, this was one of the less potent builds. Melta vets, and vets in general, seem far superior to an infantry platoon.

Just wondering how many times the Manticore rocket fired during the game ? I was under the impression it only had 4 rockets total ammunition ! Great report

The manticore only fired 4 rockets throughout the game, however some of my text may have been confusing as I was using 'rockets' for the amount of blasts it was getting per turn.

So when I say my LRR shrugged off 2 rockets, it was just one rocket that got 2 blasts.

By the end of the game it was depleted, if I said it had fired more than 4, I was probably just remembering wrong. He did forget to fire it 1 turn I know.
