Hey guys I have these shoulderpads from the command sprue that I think are Deathwatch ones. (Extra high guard bit with text and an Inquisition logo on them)

My question is, how should they be used/painted. What I was thinking was to use one on one of my veteran sergeants of one of my tactical squads. I was thinking of using it on the right and painting it black. Does this sound correct/reasonable for Ultramarines?

Thanks folks,

Stubby

Uh, well...That would be fine, I guess..

Those are just the cool pieces. I know the one. They'd be a waste on a sergeant. Use them on something cool, like a captain.

They are usually silver as it appears in artwork.

I'd suggest waiting and saving them up until you have enough to make a count as sternguard squad with all deathwatch marines.

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did.

Fluffwise, supposedly Deathwatch vets often retain the pad when they return to their own Chapters. It is normally painted silver.

While in the Deathwatch, the pad is worn on the left with the Chapter badge moved to the right, and the left arm painted silver to match. Once they return to their own Chapter, it would be up to you where to put it, really. Either keep it on the left, or swap the pads back to put the Chapter badge back where it belongs.

I'm getting this image of a marine walking into his quarters with his shiny new Deathwatch pauldron, looking in the corner at his armour, and thinking: "Emperor damn it, I got two left pauldrons!"

I never understood that part of the fluff, the shoulders are shaped to be right and left but somehow they can be swapped.

I second the sternguard idea, alternate ammo and precision attacks is just what DW is about.
