Yeah, I've noticed that most of the threads come from newbies (or sometimes even veterans) who ask something that's already been discussed to death, such as rules regarding WYSIWYG.

...the Melta blast of the Devil Dog also springs to mind.

I think what should be done is to simply attack a permament thread to the top of YMDC showing the most common questions encountered and their respective answers. I'm not talking about the INAT FAQ, I mean the most common questions that are encountered here on Dakka.

Just take a look at General Discussion.

Despite a Sticky that has been up for MONTHS, General Discussion is still flooded with rules questions.

People don't read stickies, deliberately it seems.

A "sticky" is a thread that the mods make unable to be pushed to the second page. It is "Stuck" on the first one.

The "What are you Listening to Now" thread is an example of a sticky

Why not simply post a link for these new guys that will let them find it easily .. when they click it it will open up the search page and will hopefully do 1+1=2 and work it out for themselves.

The rules are all there for all to see so they only have themselves to blame for ignoring whats in plain sight. Also for many of them they simply can't be arsed to do a search so why reward them with the answer when ponting them in the right direction to get the answer themselves is far more satisfying

I'm not really seeing a point to this thread. Not sure which YMDC board Solon is looking at, as most questions get answers fairly quickly.
