I am a new player. I am thinking about trying this army list out as my starter SM army. Please provide feedback. Forget that I am a newbie and that I will play badly for a while, what codexs, types of lists, etc will be my problem? Is this an all-comers list? I will be playing this a my FLGS where there are 7-10 players play 2000 point games each week with a wide variety of codexs... Space Wolves, Eldar, Imperial G, Ork, Chaos M, Tau and Tyranid thinking off the top of my head... forget the others...

Vulcan is a good HQ for newer players it's pretty straight forward list building
Tac 1 - Sgt with Powerfist and Combi-Melta, Marine with Multi Melta, Marine with Melta Gun, 7 Marines, Transport Rhino
Tac 2 - Sgt with Powerfist and Combi-Melta, Marine with Multi Melta, Marine with Melta Gun, 7 Marines, Transport Rhino - 245 pts
I am not a huge fan of Powerfists in Tactical squad. Tacticals are only good for two things shooting and holding objectives. I wouldn't come right out of the gate assuming your gunna combat squad. I combat squad when the mission, the terrain, and the object placement calls for it.
Hvy 1 - 5 man Devastator Squad, Sgt with Power Fist and Combi-Melta, 4 Multi-Meltas, Transport Razorback w/ex armor - 240 pts
Cant say I've ever ran four multi-meltas. Your gunna suffer do to the the limited range. If you sit back you can be easy avoided, if you move up your losing turns of shooting.
Hvy 2 - Land Raider - 250 pts
You need to load this with your Assault Terminators and Vulcan
Fast Attack 1 - 3 Attack Bikes with Multi-Meltas - 150 pts
I like land speeders better but attack bikes fill the same role
Elite 1 - 10 Terminators with Thunder Hammer and Storm Shields - 400 pts
Break these into combat squads and put half with Vulcan in Land Raider, deep striking the other onto/near an opponents objective is a solid move
Elite 2 - Dreadnought with Multi-Meltas and transported in a Drop Pod (has locator) - 150 pts
Elite 3 - Dreadnought with Multi-Meltas and transported in a Drop Pod (has locator) - 150 pts
Take heavy flamers with these guys and I would personally splurge on some extra armour. Noting worse than a stunned result preventing you from getting off an assault that is if you survive the first round of shooting.

I would consider trading the devastors multi-meltas and razorback for Missile Launchers and a Drop Pod. I would deploy the Devs in the backfield and use the empty pod to help you get both your Dreads in first turn.

I'd consider dropping the devastators for another raider, so you can put ALL your termies into raiders.

After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. We named the planet "Tranquility", for it was very quiet now.

^ What he said. Besides, I've never found multi-meltas to be particularly good on devastators. You're better off putting ANY other weapon on them or just taking something else instead.

Well, first off, to prove I am a newb, this list turns out to be more than 2000 pts... As for the feedback -

General Chaos - Thank you for all the specific feedback points... I like the extra armor bit, gotta find the points and your combat squads comment goes along with -

Honersstodnt and Lechium - I agree and am thinking about dropping the Dev squad and razorback and using those points to buy another Land Raider. Now the Termies can start loaded in a Land Raider and not deep strike in... little nervous about the unpredicatibiity of the deep striking. Two land raiders, while expensive, has got to be a big bullet magnet... my only concern with tweaking this way....

Anyway, thanks to all three for the comments... would welcome additional feedback - think I will try this new list out... with the two LR and see how it goes.
