Farseer > Warboss in close combat

I was playing a 500 point escalation league the other day, my Eldar against some Orks.

His warboss was by himself, on a bike with a power klaw, it took one wound from a 2x shuri cannon war walker, it then proceeded to eat one of my warwalkers, and my squad of jetbikes.

Then it charged into my remaining storm guardians, somehow the stormies managed to deliver a second wound, and the boss killed only 2 guardians, they passed their moral check and stayed stuck in.

I decide to cast doom on the warboss with my farseer and try to down him before his claw got to swing... that doesn't work, roll boxcars, fail my ghost helm, and my invulns, taking a wound. undeterred I decided to charge into the combat anyway with my farseer, as the witchblade had the best chance I had of downing a t6 model.

Farseer charges in, gets 2 hits, and 2 wounds while the stormies fail to roll any 6s. Warboss fails one of his 4+ saves, and my Farseer successfully killed an ork biker boss in close combat. A result I never would have believed if told that before the game started

I was wondering what interesting and un expected victories have happened in your games? Something that you would have scoffed at if it were suggested before the game started might happen! haha

Angry Blood Angel Assault marine

BA, playing against Necrons. Small, bout 1000 points. He pretty much wipes the floor with me, but in a few suicidal rushed I take out most of his units at the price almost all of mine. Doesn't matter what else we had, we only had a squad of Necron Warriors on his side (10) and a squad of Tac marines on mine (6) and his squad of scarabs. So he starts making towards me, (I'm holding the one objective, it was a pretty fun KOTH sorta game) and attempts to initiate combat with scarabs. He's JUUUUST out of range, and my squad (Originally 10) had a flamer. So, scarabs get flamed, then assaulted and the dice go great for me, destroy all the scarabs before the Warriors (Who were slogging back from the unit they had utterly destroyed, with no casualties for them, on the other side of the map) make their way into combat. I make good on the dice, take out 5 of his, he gets 1 of mine. The Sarge had power sword, so one is out of the count. Next turn, WBB kicks in and half of his casualties get right back up, so now he has 7 Crons. Still in combat, I take out 3, he gets 2. Power sword again, 1 is out of the count. Fails the WBB roll next turn, and we succeed on the roll for more turns. Now 6th turn, and it's a Tac Sarge and 2 marines against 4 Crons. Sarge takes out 2, in a set of rolls that leave me speechless (I have never rolled that many 6's in a row, and I think the dice got me back next game, rolled mostly 1's) and the other 2 die fighting. Succeed on roll for next turn, we've completely forgotten about Phase Out, and we wait to see what happens. The Sarge takes out one last Necron, and the one lone Cron fails his attacks against the Sarge, and the game is over, one Tactical Sergeant and one Necron batling it out on top of the objective.
Even if we forgot a few rules, it was REALLY fun on both sides.

10 Terminators deep struck in, right close to my lines. 11 grots and their slaver charge in. One dies from blasta fire. The grots somehow manage to cause 6 wounds. Cue 5 failed armor saves. Terminators fall back, and get chased for another turn by my Orks. Far from a pivotal point of the game, but a good one.

Another game had my Orks and a buddy's Eldar fighting Guard and Chaos. At the bottom of Turn 7, each side was holding one objective. The field was absolutely torn up, and just about all that was left were some Dire Avengers on our objective, some Guardsmen on the enemy objective, and some supporting elements. The Guard were hiding behind a chimera, and my looted wagon had it's sights set on it. My wagon had it's gun blown off on turn 2, and since then my big mek had been chasing it down to fix it. It finally got fixed and got a shot off - chimera explodes, killing some Guardsmen. Maugen Ra fires one burst from his super duper gun, and kills the last 3 Guardsmen on the objective. Barely pulled out a turn 7 victory from that one.

Impassive Inquisitorial Interrogator

Holy Terra - Lexington, SC

-My squad of Ratlingts in cover beat a squad of Chaos Raptors in CC, killing them to the last man.

-An Eldar Seer Council assaulted 2 of my Sentinels in 2 seperate close combats. Each turn one exploded and took half of the Council with them. Killed all of them.

-I had a Vindicare Assassin that had a base and part of him covered in brush/lichen for camo. I'd always place him on the woods boundry that we used lichen for to show the edge. I would ALWAYS forget to fire him because I never saw him, and the goal was that my opponent would forget he was there. Cruel irony. Last game I used him at his house, I had forgotten to take him home, and he still was there the next game, in the lichen.

In the last edition, I had an IG squad get assaulted by a space wolf rune priest who then proceeded to roll perfectly and kill 6 guardsmen. the remaining 3 IG joes then bayonet the rune priest to death.

In game with my BA, my captain with thunder hammer and jump pack took a dangerous terrain wound on the way to own a squishy dark reaper squad who promptly beat him to death in close combat.

The one where my opponent volountarily forfeited because of the awesome performance of one single model in my army. His exact words were "You win this match by sheer awesomeness"

Let me set the scene

Marines Vs Orks

The vile Xenos (Tankbusta Squad) charged a combat squad, their fate sealed, as this combat squad contained the marine who is now known as God Sergeant. The loss of his comrades only helped to increase his wrath. He won the combat, ran them down and then slayed them all to a man. But he was not finished yet, advancing on yet another Tankbusta squad, Rokkits bouncing off his forehead like hail, he charged, winning the combat and yet again running them down. Again he charged on until he met his nemesis, the vile Warboss, who stood no chance against his might. Finally he was brought down in a heroic charge against a large group of Nobz, heroically drawing fire unto himself so that his comrades could flank and destroy the enemy. (One model, destroying around 250 points worth of stuff in a 1000 point match)

This being the same sergeant who has defeated an entire squad of Grey Knights by himself and Kept a Daemon Prince tied up in hand to hand for half a game.

He's now the ONLY unit in my squad to have earned himself a partial gold repaint (All my others having silver as the metallic colour)

This goes back to 3rd edition, but my Dark Eldar came off worse for wear after a Blood Angels Rhino Rush, and at the start of my turn two, I had my Archon (ALL tooled out!) and two Incubi facing about 1400 points of Blood Angels. At the end of the game, my Archon was facing the BA Chaplain who had 1 wound remaining and a Dread literally on its last leg. I may have lost the game, but no one doubted who walked away the winner.

Of course, sweeping advance rules were much different back then.

I've been playing Warhammer 40,000 since 1988, and am just coming back from a bit of a 10-year hiatus. And please excuse any wild accusations, hallucinations, or outright factual errors, as I am recovering from a serious head injury. And Warhammer 40,000 is part of my therapy. OH YEAH!
