So i was randomly thinking the other day after reading some Mechanicum related books. My random thought included making the Mechanicum a fully fledged army. I have considered things such as what you would do with Titans (Being a Mechanicum bound entity) in other imperial armies, and Enginseers. For the first suppose you could make it an ally army on the battle field, and for the latter, they are bound to the IG. I mean come on, the have enough units to make an army... Or at least more than say Necrons or Daemon Hunters. You've got your Magos and Logitian, Skitarri(or how ever your supposed to spell it) and your heavy siege engines described in various books. Its all there, and it would be interesting to see.

People do this very often.
Even a few fan codexs have been made that are good.
Grey Templar made a particularity fantastic one.
I can't seem to find the forum posting, but if you message him he'd probably send you a copy.

I'd say no more imperial armies. They are thoroughly implemented and already polished. Soon half of the codices will be imperium related. What needs to be done is either expand other existing races or add a totally new one which wouldn't make much sense.
I don't hate the empire. But I think that the number one problem is that it get's all the attention it's being constantly expanded and upgraded at the cost of other races. I'd like to see some new additions to the dark eldar for example. Not another empire based army with half of it's units already existing (like Wolves or BAs).

Empire based army?
You're possibly referring to the Fantasy Empire?
I don't understand why people always view the army as being space marines when that is one of the Spam armies.
The Empire is Imperial Guard whereas the Bretonnians are the Space Marines. Heroic, strong-armor, and changed to fix a world with more ranged weapons.
Also, we'd all love to see additions to the Dark Eldar, but we still gotta wait for GW to put out a new codex, which doesn't look long coming in the future.
Look forward to January however, for Grey Knights!

The IG are alright, mostly, it's the mass-spammed SMs that are the problem with WH40k. When more than half the armies played are the ones portrayed as the best of the best and fewset - who are they heroically defending mankind against? Other Space Marines. It would be a lot better if the IG were the promoted army, partly because they have basic stats and partly because it makes more sense - there are more than 2 million soldiers recruited from certain worlds, while each Sunday about twice as many Space Marines as exist in fluff die to Eldar Plasma and Tau Railguns combined as models.
We're facing a scene where WS/BS/T4 is standard along with 3+ saves being the definition of armour piercing - even to the point where AP5 or AP- often is treated as if it didn't really matter what you get.
Oh, and SMs are empire. Tau are the closest we get to Bretonnians. If you want to compare them strictly on firepower+armour, then they are WFB Stunties (although stunties are more charming).
(I dislike Space Marines, can you tell :p it's the only army in 40k I dislike)

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums. |

Yea, i do realize that the Imperium has a butt load of armies, and other armies are in dire need of a re-fit, such AS Dark Eldar. Of coarse it would have to wait until every Codex is brought up to 5th edition, to be fair. On the other hand, the Imperium should have a lot of different armies, because they are the ruling race in the galaxy, and control the most worlds.

Too late Konini, http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/armySubUnitCats.jsp?catId=cat420001&rootCatGameStyle= I count 14 books and 6 of them are IoM based armies and this does not include the Deamon Hunters codex which I hear is being rewritten right now so "Repent ye heratic! your doom is nigh!".

Umm, Space Marines are the most popular army because they are the army with the most appeal to 40K gamers. GW didn't decide one day to make SMs their number one seller, and they couldn't just decide to make IG or Orks or anyone else #1 by promoting them instead.
But yeah, I'd love to see a Mechanicus army, and if GW released one I'd almost certainly collect it.

I think putting them in every starter set, writing more fluff for them anf doing multple codexi for them could be called promoting them.

Yeah got to agree with Wizard 12 GW do whore out marines.
Marines and orks are the only 40k sides to get the uber boxes (£100 can't remember there actual names)
there is what 5? space marine codex.
DoW franchise focus is on the Blood Ravens (yes I know the add ons added sides)
the next game coming out is called space marine and the are doing a film of it.
Mairnes are 40k flagship product.
I like the Skitarii/Tech Guard Idea, but I do agree that GW could expand some of the other sides a little, not necessarily whole new side or codex but addons, like a Goff mini codex for ork or different kabals for DE, slight changes to the codex to match up with the fluff a little.

Is that why the two bigget armines during 3rd ed were Marines and Dark Angels? Is that why Tyranids suddenly overtook the previously dominant Marines with the release of 4th, only to be overtaken in 5th by Orks? Or did Marines chug along all that time outselling everything else in combination?
You're confusing the bull and the horns. GW put marines first and foremost because it's their big seller.

I do agree that Marines sell a lot because they appeal to people, but Marines have always been the center of 40k. Always. Don't believe me? Guess who's on the cover of Rogue Trader? Marines. Guess who figures prominently in a ton of pictures? Marines. They just do. Hell, when the main rulebook was released, they had the box of 30 plastic Marines that they had just released as well. So part of it has been that they have always been the poster boys, and so of course that's the first thing that pretty much everyone saw.

I think that they should make more detailed IG codicies. Catachans, Cadians, Mordians, Tallarn, and all the rest don't fight the same and should have different or add on codecies.

If you want to do it...go for it.
I'd suggest making it something along the lines of an ally force, that can be taken with or without IG.

I like that idea, but then you could imagine the argument for doing that to EVERY other army. You could go overboard very easily.
Eventually there could be a codex for each chapter/craftworld/legion, or whatever you want to call it.
Then it we be utterly ridiculous.
E.G. all the different hive fleets having a different codex.
