Total fluff list but very ouchy at same time.
what do you think.
WHole point of this list is "what if you took a super outfitted vanguard squad with librarian and chaplain" so don't say "get rid of the vanguards!"

HQ:
Librarian
Epistolary
Jump Pack
Null Zone & Force Dome
175

Chaplain
Digital Weapons
Power Fist
Jump Pack
140

ELITES
Terminator Assault Squad (5 man)
x 5 TH/SS

Vanguard Veteran Squad (10 man)
Sergeant: Lightning Claws
LC x 18 (!!!!)
Jump Packs
Melta Bomb x 1

HEAVY SUPPORT
Vindicator

2495 points. Librarian and chaplain go with Vanguard unit.
This means you have a (ultra expensive I know) jump pack unit that can assault 18" (12" movement and 6" assault) which are Relentless, Fearless, have a 5+ Inv Save and get this:
49 attacks on the charge.
Infantry wrecker if ever there was one. Oh and the melta bomb and Power Fist can take out armour as well.
All attacks are rerolled to hit. and over 40 (40!!) are rerolled to wound!

61.5 points per model in that Squad...

HAHA yup! But imagine the amount of infantry it can take out. it would probably recoup its cost over 3 turns!

Or be killed in some horrible way by a high AP blast weapon. I guess though my view just comes from an overall dislike of expensive units.

your vanguard are WAY CRAZY OMG overpriced. its a bit insane.

you realize you can't deepstrike them then assault, right? you have a 315 point HQ choice, and a 615 point unit, and your planning on running them up the field? literally any army can put that down before it hits them. seriously... don't even need to fire AP3 or better ammo. You have 14 wounds coming at me... all I need to do then is 42 wounds against it, and the whole thing is dead.

if you REALLY wanna use vanguard, and it sounds like you do, here's a unit i'd suggest instead :

drop the librarian.
take the following vanguard squad:
5x chainsword + stormshield
3x power sword + bolt pistol + melta bomb
1x thunder hammer + bolt pistol
1x relic blade + bolt pistol sarge

505 points. Add in the chaplain to make it fearless. Because you have so many stormshields, you really don't need the librarian for his 5+ invulnerable save... and you'll have 16 power sword attacks on the charge, along with 3 relic blade attacks on the charge, and 3 thunder hammer attacks. not to mention the 15 chainsword attacks.

the unit total cost is now 630 instead of 930... 300 points saved, and you still have a unit of tricked out vanguard.

After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. We named the planet "Tranquility", for it was very quiet now.

If you really, really want to take the Vanguard, use them on their own, withough an IC. Taking an IC with the Squad removes thier Heroic Intervention. Using Heroic Intervention means one fewer turn where the Vanguard are standing there waiting to assault after Deep Striking.

For the cost of the Vanguard and the Chaplain, I could take a full squadron of Leman Russ Executioners with Plasma Cannon sponsons, with an Inquisitor and Mystics to ensure that the very moment you arrive via Deep Strike, you'll have 15 S7 Ap2 Blasts heading straight for you, leaving just a few scarred pieces of ceramite. This shows that any low Ap blast will simply tear them apart. Battle Cannons, Earthshakers, Prism Cannons immediatly spring to mind.

Also, spending such a proportion of your points on this unit is...well dumb. You cannot hurt vehicles higher than AV11, and your arrival is still random, meaning that you could possible end up arriving close to the end of the game, at which point it'll be too late to do anything significant. I suggest dropping the squad size down to 5 guys, or if you want to have 10, or already have 10 models, take 2 seperate squads of 5. That will ensure that at least one unit will land relatively early in the game and allow you to land a crippling blow on the enemy.

Good luck with getting 36 non-Terminator Lightning Claws.

Yeah, Heroic Intervention is lost if you take an IC with the squad. Pay more attention.

Even if you wound on 2+ you can still roll 1's.

And it would be better to post some constructive advice, rather than "Vanguard suck! lol "

hehehe now i've spun up a hornet's nest.

I would never ever play this list, but it's just a "what would happen if" list.
The idea of getting a unit that can be highly mobile, take on anything, and get inv saves....

Dumbass...I know that. He didn't say anything about I.C. He just said they cannot assault after deep strike; I've even quoted it so you can read properly.

Again, dumbass, private joke! Doofus

Woah, no need for hostility. I had no idea it was a private joke.

there is a time and a place for private jokes. Not everywhere are they appropriate. For example, if you have a longstanding private joke where you tell your friend, "I'm going to kill your mother!", and your currently on trial for murder, this would not be an appropriate time to make said joke.

What comes around goes back around mate. Perhaps if you wouldn't be so jumped up in the first place telling me to pay attention like I'm a school boy and would I really put Vanguard suck? You read any of my 2,000+ posts on here for list feedback? That's why I put a smilie laughing for; because it's a joke which is comical.

Perhaps a better structured reply from yourself would have been "Vanguard cannot assault from deep strike with a I.C "

You know what I'm saying.

I would sooner die than admit I was wrong. To this day, I have only 1 leg, because I told the doctor I had flesh eating fungus, but he didn't listen, and told me my leg fell asleep.

well, I'll be damned if I didn't cut that limb off then and there to spite him.

AMERICA!!! feth YEA!!!

ok rethought the vanguard a bit.......

7 man squad. BUT:

x 7 Storm Shields 105
x 5 Thunder Hammers 135
Jump Packs x 7 70

475 points and now takes on all comers properly with mobility and rerolled hits and enemy having to reroll inv saves if librarian and chaplain go with them.

yea... vanguard are 30 points a model w/ packs on... assault marines are what, 18? for nearly DOUBLE the price, what kind of bonus do you get... +1 attack, and the ability to further balloon the price of your squad with special weapons.

yay? allow me to throw my legs back and pollute my britches with glee.
