So ghazgkull is a unique character, there is only one ghazgkull thrakka in the universe. So if two ork players are playing each other, can they both have ghazgkull?

The rules of your army do not apply to your opponent's army unless they specifically say as much, even when that army is the same.

You can explain it however you wish... One of the Ghazzes is an imposter, or it's some sort of simulation, or a freak Warp Storm causing a fold in time, or simply a 'what if' situation rather than a 'historical' battle in the 40K timeline... are all places to start. I'm sure people can come up with others if they feel so inclined.

Yeah the only limit for characters is for your own army. You can use any excuse to justify 2 Ghazzys against each other. Imposter, clone, robot double, brother, himself from the future, etc, it's complety up to your imagination.

We both respected the unique character part of the game, there is only one ghazz, so we did a best of 5 roll off for it..... sorry rule book lovers.....

For what?

You asked a rules question, and were given the answer. How you choose to apply those rules is entirely up to you. If you and your opponent are both happy to apply the Unique rule to both armies, good for you. It's your game, play it how you see fit.

we wanted to know the true answer, we both figured it was legal based on the army rules in the rule books but just wanted to make sure we were right about it, but we both felt it was uncool to have two ghaz's on the board.... thanks to all for your replies very helpful.

In your squads, doing the chainsword tango

You could pretend the other Ghaz is Nazdreg (?), The head of the Badmoons or make your own warboss up? or as you've done, roll off and give the losing player his points and HQ slot back to quickly refill? RAW you can play with both, but I think in most non tournament games its really up to the people playing

Well unless you both want to go with a Commissar Fuklaws rule..... heres the direct quote from the 1d4chan website containing him
Feth Impostors!(changed for vulgar language)
If two opposing armies include Commissar Fuklaw, those models, and the units they are attached to, must, if able, move to get into close combat with each other. Neither unit will retreat until one of Commissar Fuklaws (who is obviously an impostor) is killed.

WAAAHG!!! until further notice

There's even a story in the Ork codex about a Warboss who somehow goes back in time and kills his past self so he could have a backup version of his favorite gun.

This is exactly what "counts as" is for - it's not Ghaz you're fielding, it's your own shiny-skulled, mega-armoured, warboss with his own name and fluff. He just uses Ghaz's rules.

Could be Goregutz from Dow .

The biggest indicator someone is a loser is them complaining about 3d printers or piracy.
