Alrighty i was looking at Bolter and Chainsword and so far there are 905 chapters collected at Project 1000 Chapters. Here http://philipsibbering.com/blog/1000-chapters/

Anyway I was wondering is this huge or is it just another oh look another fan-made army.
I was also wondering are there more chapters than 1,000. Because if you do the math. 1,000 x 1,000 = 1,000,000.... I thought there would be more space marines than 1 million. :*(

Also talk about your contribuations. No cristisium on other chapters. Unless if they are so crappy that everyone agrees. (Ultramarines are exception you may make fun of them.)

The traditional fluff has typically indicated there would be barely 1 Marine per imperial world, and around 1 million imperial worlds.
But really, what happens if there are more than 1000 chapters? The galaxy gets a blue screen of death?
Dont worry about the numbers, just keep playing and having fun. The website is great, but its just fanboy stuff. I honestly doubt the High Lords of Terra even know how many chapters there are exactly.

Don't forget, there's actually more than 1000 marines in a chapter (Theres an article over at B&C called "the 1000 marine myth" or something to that extent) which explains that theres nearer 2000-2500 marines to a chapter.

*edit* I should clarify, I agree there are over 1000 marines, but disagree with the 2000-2500 speculation.

Well it could be 1000 Marines, if you count Neophytes that have yet to be inducted into the Chapter, although I think it would be less than 2500, maybe 1500.

I agree though, it's a reasonable amount of chapters and I also agree that there's not going to be 2000+ marines per standard chapter. More like 1200 IMHO.

2000+ marines really? My chapter has 5,000. Only because we don't follow the codex. But anyway. I still think there maybe more space marine chapters. But i think it would be apoclypse if the Chapters all combined with each other :O

No. Its basically 5 chapters combined into one :O.
And i have none of the characters. I have a Chapter Master that has a sword. Where Crusaders but where not like the ultramarines at all. We follow parts of the codex. But we just don't follow much of it. Basically were Black Templars, except we have pyskers.

So cake and eat it .. DIY at its finest.

People will just disregard your fluff if you just give yourself unrealistic advantages.

I have a chapter in that list. Sadly it is not my favourite one there.. which is the headhunters, they look cool.

Wait till I come up with my fluff for my DIY chapter: The Superultramegamarines. 20k of them, all terminator armoured, weilding dual master crafted assault cannons that shoot thunder hammers. Oh, and they have a third PAULDRON. For their undeniably huge testicles. Thats how I roll.

My chapter is the Oceania Chapter. Although the name is dumb nothing defeats the retardation of a name like space wolves. So I feel ok.

It certainly makes since to me that a chapter would have over 1,000 members, considering the wide range of missions the SM seem to be involved in. Still, they seem to be too small of a force for some of the fluff associated with them (like being able to conquer an entire planet in a matter of days, etc).

Here's the B&C article, and using UM they count ~1600
And thats UM! You know, the chapter that said no more than 1000

Before we have this 1000 marines thing again, grab the 3rd ed marine dex, look at the pic of the "whole Ultramarine chapter" count the
heads and accept the 1k as a general size to aim for.
A common size should be +- 1000, max at 1500.

Even with that many. If you can even semi grasp how large the 40k vers is. Its really nothing. Plus as far as i understand it. Most humans will go there whole lives and never see a marines. Be it a member of IG or other wise.

even if each of those 905 had 2500 marines thats only a little over 2million marines.

With the millions of plantes the imperium has at anyone time plus the trillions apone trillions of humans there are. There being only 2 mill really dosnt mean much.

But the fluff of marines doesnt match well with the table top very well at all. Since one marines is almost god like. Someone made once a true to fluff stat line of a marine and its pretty crazy. Its closer to an MC like a fex
