So here is what happened in a game my friend and I were playing. I was vanilla marines, he was eldar. He full out moved a wave serpent near my marines with the back hatch right on the board edge. in my subsequent shooting phase I inflicted an Immobilized result on the tank. now he said that he only had to place the models within 2 inches of the vehicle, instead of the rear hatch. so my question is whether he was correct and his banshees were then allowed to tear my marines a new one the next phase. Or if the entire squad should have been destroyed since it would have been impossible to place them without them being off the board.

what he was trying to do was called an emergency disembarkation which only happens on a wrecked or explodes result. however even if the rear hatch is pointed off board, they are still able to deploy within 2" of the hatch but not the entire hull during the owners turn. now if he cant disembark all of them, they stay in the transport until it is wrecked or explodes.

If you're referring to emergency disembark, he can be anywhere within 2 inches of the hull but the models are allowed no further actions that turn (p. 67 BRB). so- if you immobilized the tank, he would get out during his turn and do nothing. if you wrecked the tank, his models would get out on your turn and be free to act normally on his.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
emergency disembark is Not precluded to wrecked vehicles. The rulebook states it can be done any time hatches are blocked.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.
