Recently the Eldar support weapons got updated in plastic, replacing the old metal models. Now the old models had separate bases for both guardian crew and the gun itself, whereas the new model has one of the crew on the same base as the gun.

This doesn't matter in most situations, but what about when blast weapons are shot at the unit? Does a blast landing on the gun and crew (but same base) cause a single hit to the unit or two hits?

By the rules I think it should be just one hit, but that is clearly a change from how it was in the past.

What do people think?
Thanks!

Honestly, it depends on how the eldar codex words it, as, if the models are supposed to be on seperate bases, and GW just forgot then you would take two wounds from templates, as, well, it's supposed to be two bases.

If there isn't any specific wording, then congratulations, looks like you dont take the extra wound.

All it says is "1 to 3 support weapons (including two Guardian crew per weapon)," without any mention of basing.

Thanks for the fast reply!

Then they are supposed to be on separate bases, as they are artillery.

Remember the hits are randomised anyway.

Yes, you are correct. With the new model alone you would take 2 hits on the gun for the crew and gun. Easy way around it is to put another model out for the 2nd crew member and just say the gun and guardian on the gun just count as the gun.

God I hope artillery gets some love with 6th edition and Eldar guns become non-suck with the next dex.

Under the couch

We had this exact same issue with Imperial Guard heavy weapons last edition.

Blasts and Templates affect a model if they affect its base. So a blast or template hitting a base that contains two models will affect both models, because you judge hits by models, not by bases.
SO:

Model 1: Is its base touched by the blast marker / template?
If so, it is affected.

Model 2: Is its base touched by the blast marker / template?
If so, it is affected.

The fact that both models are on the same base makes no difference to the way the rules work.

Interestingly enough, they removed this problem (which was one of the most frequently debated issues for Guard last edition) for Guard by changing the teams in the current codex to be single models with 2 wounds... and then went and added it in for Eldar instead. Yay.
