Any ideas on possible lists for a new player with no experience wahtsoever at Warmachine - UI've been gaming over twenty years though.

Start small, try playing a bunch of 15pt games before expanding to bigger games. The small games will really let you focus on how your warcaster and jacks work, once you master this part of the game start expanding. Good luck.
