Well, I have a super huge Ork army (close to 30000 points) that I needed super fast painting system. I am already using the Irondog Studios speed painting for the infantry but the vehicles are another matter. I wanted a used, sunfaded look to my vehicles so I decided to go with the GW Foundation Mechrite. However, this left it looking more pink then red. So, I used three full coats of GW Baal Red Wash, two of GW Devlin Mud and one of GW Badab Black. This gave the Battle Wagon a nice sunfaded and dirty look to the entire model. Then this also toned down and faded the yellow and white which I used GW Foundation Tauspet Ochre (yellow) and GW Dheneb Stone (white). All the metal was done with a dry brushing of GW Boltgun Metal then one coat each of GW Devlin Mud and GW Badab Black. Next to finish it off I used weathering powders to give a nice dusty and rusted look to the model. Total painting and weathering time of 5 hours. I am very please with the results so here is so photos of the finished results.
After I finished the BW I decided to finish off my FW Ork Fighta-Bomma. Before anyone points out that the ends of the wings are missing I needed those for my pulse rokkit plus it was a good mounting point for my two super rokkits from a Stompa Kit. This model was painted using my old painting system of doing a painted rust system over the entire model then dry brushing red through all of GW's red paints to GW Blood Red. This is a very time consuming process but leaves a nice deep red over the model after a coat of GW Baal Red and Devlin Mud. This red painting process is going to be used for very special vehicles such as my OOP armorcast and epicast Ork vehicles that I own. The worse part of the Fighta-Bomma was the checker boards. That will make Baby Jesus cry everytime. Stright lines over a curved surface equals a hate from old times. Total painting and weathering time 10 1/2 hours. So here is the finished product.
Thanks for looking and C&C is always welcome.

Thanks. I am hoping I can get more of the small fighters that are in the background. They are totally worth the $10 I spent on it.

I like the BW. No nonsense and gives an 'apocolyptic' feel to it.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby. |

Simple and effective paint scheme on the BW. It works very well and I think I'll loot it.

I think the next few BWs will take less time since now I know the paint scheme and number of washes that I need. The first model always takes the longest. I am glad it came out looking good because I was worried when the first coat of the foundation red went on and the model looked like a big blocky barbie car.but once the washes when on and darkened the red I knew I had a winner. I am going to go through pots of washes like none other it is so worth the time saving compaired to the method use on the fighter-bomma.

I like the Fighter Bomber scheme, but I'm not immensely fussed on the Battlewagon scheme. It just looks a tad too bleached for my tastes. Perhaps it's just the lighting though.
I must thank you for pointing me towards Irondog studios' speed painting guide. I'll have to give that a go on an Ork or two.

The lighting in my basement is a bit off. I am still trying to get the right mixture of cool and warm lighting to get good pictures. Now the Irondog studios speed painting is great because the painting does not have to be precise because the wash hides a lot of mistakes and gives a depth to the model. I knocked out 10 orks in like an hour and 20 grots in hour and fifteen minutes. When one has a 300 ork boy green tide and time saving is a must. Quantity has its own quality.

So you recommend their speed painting guide? I've been using this, but it takes ages. I guess I'll give Irondog a trial run.
Incidentally, do you happen to have any images of your Speedpainted Orks, or possibly some of the Wagon in a different light?

Ah, thanks a lot.
The Battlewagon's colour looks far better now, although I feel it could be improved if it had something to draw the eye to, as opposed to just being red. I'm envisioning a yellow glyph on top of the cab, or something like that. Just my 2c.
The Orks look fine for speed painted, and definitely make tabletop quality. Even so, your photos demonstrate that there is quite a large difference between layered tones of green and a single wash on the flesh. The details (especially the red) are far closer to their highlighted counterparts.

I am planning on added detail to the vehicles when we start our pre-heresy campaign so they are going to start plain and as it continues get more detailed. Playing a large Ork army is like playing WFB where a mass of high tabletop quality painting is key or you would never be able to finish the army.
