Subject: Fast Cavalry and characters

Hey all,
While reading the BRB I noticed that Fast Cavalry units lose that ability if a character who doesn't possess the Fast Cavalry special rule joins the unit. This is rather pesky for me since I liked to embed my wood elf mage with mounted troops, and both of the WE cavalry options are fast.
Are there any magical items that can grant fast cavalry status to a character?
Thanks,
Shawn

Not that I'm aware of, it's something that hits a lot of lists though.

It's one of the nagging reasons why I'm hesitating about starting a gobbo spider rider army... I hope the O&G book that's rumored to come out gives fast cavalry to gigantic spiders.

I suppose one could argue that since a fast calvary unit with a character loses that status, they can now gain rank bonuses and compromise opponents' ranks on rear/flank attacks. I can't imagine opponents would see it that way.

What are you talking about, no where does it say that fast cavalry, don't take gain rank bonuses or fail to disrupt formations? To disrupt formations you just need to have two ranks when ranks are determined.

Right you are, I was thinking of skirmishers instead.

Actually, I was thinking of the Fast Cavalry rule in 6th edition, which is what I played by on release day since I hadn't read the BRB yet.

Final note: GW updated the Wood Elves errata sheet today, and Elven Steeds now grant Fast Cavalry to characters.

WOW!!! That's quite a change... very interesting!
Unfortunately, it does not help my wildrider noble on great stag, or spellsinger on unicorn . Very cool for those still planning to run wildriders, though! Mine are personally going on the shelf, for theme purposes, but also effectiveness...
