Just wanted to clarify what the rules regarding Wolfguard are. I know you can use them either as bodyguards for your characters, or leaders for your units.

My question being whether you can use them as separate squads or not? So if I wanted to take a five man wolfguard term squad would that be allowed? Or would I have to attach it to a character or split them amongst my squads before the battle? Given that GW sell a specific squad of this kind I'm assuming you can take them as a singular elites choice?

Cheers in advance!

Back in the day, we were epic Space Vikings with horns, and beer, and stupid mockney accents, and we didn't have any truck with this flying around like a pansy shizzle. We certainly didn't surround ourselves with mangy animals.

Now we're basically the Bestiality Chapter.

We also now ride chariots and employ daemonic dreadnoughts...also, we fly and teleport with abandon. With wolves.

You're indeed correct in all respects. WG can be used as an Elites choice on their own (So your 5-man Termie squad is 100% viable), can be joined by ICs (Although not to be confused with Retinues, which have their own rules), and can also, one per unit, join a selection of packs (Called Wolf Guard Pack Leaders (WGPL) when they do this, see their entry in the codex to find out how they work in their entirety)

Thanks alot.

One more question if you don't mind - Say I took ragnar and the two wolf retinue - could I also give him a WG bodyguard on top? Or would I have to choose one?

I know that one the game has begun I can't join him to any other units until the retinue is dead.

Cheers.

Short answer; Yes
Long answer; Still yes, but with clarification The two wolves don't (I believe) form an actual Retinue, they just become part of his wargear (There is a subtle but important difference somewhere, can't remember what it is though...) He still remains an IC, and so can indeed join the unit of Wolf Guard, who, despite the fluff, don't form a Retinue, just a unit that he is attached to. (I keep going on about Retinues because they have they're own rules set, and many people get confused, as the word bodyguard is also used frequently but incorrectly)
Hope it helps

RaW they do form a Retinue.

The FAQ (Not the Errata) says they don't though.
