So my flgs had a launch event for WHFB 8th ed and I won a box of handgunners so i decided to start up a Empire army for our upcoming slow grow league.

I was able to get a pair of the old steam tanks still brand new in the box at 60% off so about $22usda each.

I finished the first one with much toil and lots of swearing, the steam tank is by far one of the worst pewter models I have had to build, although i typically avoid large pewter models like the plague.

Unfortunately it seems the second one was missing one of it's side pieces so I have to return it and hopefully can exchange it for another one.

So day 1:



I soaked both models in detergent after cleaning them up and this pictures is both tanks freshly decanted.

Day 2:


Side view without flash i thought it looked kinda dynamic i kept the shot.

2 steam tanks!??! I didn't think thaat many even existed . Great buy mate and looking forward to the handunners.

I'm sure I read that the Empire has 7 or 8 steam tank's in total. I think it was in one of the army books.

I really love seeing WFB forces come together as theres just something about seeing mass ranks all lined up that loos so awesome, so I will follow this thread with interest.

The steam tank is a little over 3 lbs of pewter it is a beast.

I should have the hand gunners done tonight. Sorry to keep you all waiting but I am a full time college student, so i don't have as much free time as i would like.

Ok so good news and bad news.

Bad news first the stores steam tank was missing the exact same piece so I only have 1 steam tank now a second will be forthcoming eventually but at a 50 dollar in vestment and not being able to field 2 in the slow grow league until the end of it, it's gonna be a while.

Good news I used the store credit plus a little extra cash and got the following.



One great cannon and two ten man units of statesman troops.

I should have a brick of ten or more assembled tonight.

Ok well here is some WIP stuff to keep this thread rolling.

I took a picture to show that the steam tank actually still comes apart and I intend to paint up the inside as well. Also as a side note about a 1/3 of a stick of GS went into making this fething thing. This being said I am happy to note you really cannot see any of the GS and that makes me very happy with how this thing turned out.



Last shot of the tank I promise( well until it's painted) I just wanted to get a close up of the inside.



Finished my handgunners regiment, and if you notice I did my best to position them on their bases and in posture so that they fit in ranks perfectly. The down side of this is they only be place in one correct order so now I have to mark their bases.

I hope you all enjoyed these as much as I enjoyed making them.

Make sure you drill the handgun barrels, make them look so much better.

really love that objective marker.
I would certainly love to see a warrior priest. It gives the army a good boost.

@Scrazza: I have a Warrior priest on order he will be my arch lector.

@Vitruvian XVII: I drilled out all the barrels just didn't take a pic after wards, but I took one just for you.

I finished assembling a great cannon and crew, this is actually just an exceptional model it is fun to build and if you build it right is completely pose-able.







So, since the cannon and mortar are the same kit I had the bits left over for the mortar and after several failed ideas I kind of settled on this one, I was able to kit bash the remaining pieces plus some stuff I had lying around to make my self a mortar so potentially for every cannon kit you buy you can kit bash a mortar. You are basically getting 2 artillery pieces for the price of one.





Please keep in the mind the mortar is still WIP I am just not sure what I want/need to do to it in order to make it feel finished.

@Heimidal Yeah, the mortar is a bit off but it is still WIP and hopeful I will be able to figure out something that will make it come together a bit better. I will start painting as soon as I have finished all the models I have. They will be based at a later time i plan on doing snow for the bases but I am still deciding on which kind/recipe for snow I want to go with.

Also i have an update!

I finished the first group of 10 swordsman I did my best to give them all unique and dynamic poses some of which i borrowed from 300.

Here is the full squad as they would appear on the table.



This is a kind of fuzzy picture of the standard bearer sorry about the pics but my camera doesn't do macro shots very well.



The following shots are close up of the units to show off the posing that was done.







This is the musician and if you look closely you can see that he has his shield on his back I did the same with the standard bearer and the duelist that way they accurately represent that they have shields.

Also there are a ton of views and very few comments. I would appreciate anything you guys have to say, even if all it is to say looks good or looks like crap.

That posing looks very good, reminds me of the guys I used to (boffer) swordfight with. It gives the impression that they are crouched a little bit behind their sheilds, waiting to counterstrike once you commit to attack them.

Nice job. I can't wait to see some paint on these guys. Might even inspire me to start an Empire army myself! (Even though I HATE painting slashed sleeves...)

I was recently considering scratch-building an assembly for the mortar as well. I may have to steal incorporate some of your ideas into mine .

Nice to see some empire guys, was gonna go for a WHFB army a while ago but cast up some cadian legs to replace the spandex but it kinda died off

I really like the dynamic poses, the front line looks awsome.
you might find painting the guys a little tuff with the shields in the way no?
what kind of colors are you going to go for?
