So I signed up at my FLGS for a Build and Battle Campaign. While there are no points limits so far, I have a limited amount of money per week that I can spend on the army. I have picked up my Week 1 box, but after that I can move around/change all my potential purchases.

The breakdown is here:

Week 1 - $50 (box of Marauders - $15 carried over to the next week).
Week 2 - $35 (Marauder Horsemen, Lord on Foot?)
Week 3 - $35 (Marauders?)
Week 4 - $35 (Knights?)
Week 5 - $35 (Warriors?)
Week 6 - $35 (Warriors?)
Week 7 - $35 (Warriors and Mage?)
Week 8 - $50 (Dragon Ogre Shaggoth?)

If I went this way I would have the following totals.
32 Marauders
36 Warriors
1 Lord on Foot
1 Mage on Foot
5 Knights
5 Marauder Horsemen
1 Dragon Ogre Shaggoth

Would this be a solid base for an army? I'm currently leaning towards an Undivided list with at least one unit per god. I'm currently working on a list and will post it later this evening or tomorrow.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Ok so here's the list.

Lords - 15.5%

Core - 45.8%
Marauders - x32, Lt. Armour, Flails, Musc, Standard, MoK (Exalted goes here)
Marauder Horsemen - x5, Lt. Armour, Flails, MoS
Warriors - x18, Shields, FC, MoT
Warriors - x18, Shields, FC, MoT

Special - 13.3%
Knights - x5, Musc, Standard (Blasted Standard), MoN

Rare - 12.2%

get a sorcerer early, the 1 spell in Tzeentch devastates folks.
somewhere somehow, get some chaos trolls.
grab yourself a hellcannon, they easily kill 20-30 models a game for me.

aside, I have 5 of the plastic knights that I'll never use and would be willing to trade for some marauders should you have any extras

I would skip the marauder horsemen, other people will likely argue otherwise, but when you have a budget try getting a unit of warriors in their stead.

IF you can spot my army in the army list section, its a 3000 pointer but you may get some insight on my play style

Hmmm...

Pretty solid list. Not too keen on the Shaggoth, but 8th's been good to him. How do you plan on ranking up the Marauders?

Marauders will be 8x4, or 6x5 - going to play around with it.

The Knights and Marauder Horsemen are there to add an element of speed to the army. There is at least 1 Dwarf gunline and and Empire gunline being built. I figure speed is a necessity.

I like the Dragon Ogre Shaggoth's model (he also costs just less than $50 where as I would have to rethink my purchases to get a hellcannon), he runs with the Knights should draw any artillery fire away from my warriors.

Another justification I guess for the Knights, and Marauder Horsemen, is that in Weeks 3-7 I can spend only $35 on my army (which is a box of Marauders or Warriors), if I don't spend a weeks total it can be used later, that "freed cap room" is there so I can get the Sorcerer or Exalted (they cost the same so I can switch them around or bump the knights purchase up and have them both by week 4).

The other cravat to the campaign is that I must have a legal list on week 3 so I need to have a hero, and core. (What constitutes a legal list? - I haven't built an army in stages before).

Hahahahaha, dude. You mean 'caveat', a cravat is a cloth worn wrapped around the neck, sort of takes the place of a tie. I don't play WHFB, but good luck with your army!

For a legal 8th edition mini army you need one general (most any hero/lord) AND at least 3 units, at least two of those units must be core.

So...Sorcerer, brick o' marauders, marauder horsemen and chaos knights would easily fill out your requirements.

Ya, spell-check doesn't let me know if I have the wrong word, oh well.

Good to know, I'll just switch my week 3 and 4 purchases around, that way I can get the Lord on foot sooner.

Tactics wise, i just run forward and get into CC as fast as possible. Hopefully either the horsemen or the knights will be alive to go after warmachines or get behind any big blocks.

I was rather surprised that this campaign will net me a 2250 army. Apparently after the 8 weeks there is a tournament the week after that (not sure what the points will be). If its more than 2250, what should I consider adding?

seriously consider the hellcanon. you place it in the middle of a unit, 1 guy gets a str 10 hit, and 19 more get a str 5 hit.
that can easily cripple a flank. Also, the hellcannon has a chance to make every caster on the table miscast witch is beautiful for you.

Never leave home without your Infernal Puppet.

Also, the hellcannon doesn't need it's crew to fire every turn and is a mean beast in combat should it rampage!.

Aw, infreak you remind me of the headache that the hellcannon can cause.

the hellcannon (I think) is now a monster with handlers full time now, except it shoots like a warmachine.

In the event that the hellcannon loses its dwarf buddies it has to roll a monster reaction at LD4 unless your general just happens to be close by (witch means he probably ran from combat, lol). Its not all bad though, most of the results on the reaction table are pretty funny, AND you still get to ram into things with your s5 t6 evil cannon with 5 attacks. plus its unbreakable.

Yeah, it does have to roll on the monster reaction table if it loses it's crew. However, I am unsure of how rampage! would work with the monster reaction table... Rampage! tells you to roll against the cannons ld if the dwarves are dead. If you fail you move 2d6( or was it 3d6) towards the nearest enemy. I don't know how a monster works once it's handlers are gone besides the initial roll on the reaction table. I must investigate further when I get home.

In either case, the hellcannon is a solid (and sometimes wacky) choice

The hellcannon looks good, I'm not sure if i'll have the "cap room" for it during the campaign, but I'll defiantly be getting at least one before the tournament in September.
