Subject: Simultaneous play for large games?

Over the last few days i have been thinking about this idea and how, more importantly if, this idea would work. The first part of this is simple you need 4 players with an army of 3k+. After setting up the 4 players armies decide and agree on any alliance, I.E space marines and gaurd and 2 factions of chaos, then who goes first. (this would be easier with a diagram lol).
So if the space marine player wins the roll off for firstturn, the chaos players decide which one of them goes first. while the space marines are taking there turn the first chaos player starts at the same time.
im not 100% sure, as i said, how or if this would work but im thinkin if i could get it right with input from people here and a few battle tests that it could make a battle extremly different and difficult. please give input cheers.
(o n if this is already on here some were or in an old WD book just say n ill delete this post)

So players on opposite teams are taking their turns at the same time?
If that's it, then that's already a no-go...

yeah kind of, i didnt explain to well did i lol.
player A space marines and player B gaurd are team 1 and player C khorn and D undivided are team 2.
player A and player C play at the same time, then B and D, obviously lol. so its not like A B C D all play at the same time, that wuld be impossible to keep up with.
If its a no go then i wanna see if i can make it wrk in a way that is fair and not stupidly difficult to play and keep up with. nothing should be a no go and there is a way to get around every problem.
my idea for shooting and assaults are no were near finished but here they are, movment and shooting phases are easy to do, theres nothing difficult there just a rapid exchange of fire. units cant move to close to enemy units any way so thats solved or just add an extra 1".
player A shoots at a unit of player C's, resolve as normal, movment phase is done so nothing difficult there.
assaults is were i am having a problem, player A assults player C's unit at the same time as player C was about to assult player A's unit. this is were i am having a problem.

Having opposing sides play at the same time isn't really something 40k can pull off easily. If you want to play that way, may I point you in the direction of Warmachine? Even if you don't want to switch, it could be helpful to your custom rules.

Cool, i'll look into warmachine, but i doubt ill leave the relm of 40k lol. unless its better or as good as 40k.
i know that simultaneous play will be an incredibly difficult task to get to work, but i dont think its impossible. after thinkin n doin a few sketches i think it will only be possible if the table is plit 4 ways, players A and B at on one side, player C opposite player A ect. i think that would be the easiest way to get around a few problems for the first few turns, but after that it gets difficult.

Assault phases and shooting phases get completely screwed.
"I'm going to assault squad A"
"Too bad! Squad A is going to assault Squad B and get out of range"
"Screw that, I'm going to have Squad B assault Squad C"
etc.
Shooting is the same thing.
Can't be done with the current 40K setup.

40k Is designed around a turn based system. Having everyone go at the same time is not a turn based system. It will not work with in the normal rules of the game.

these are the things i have been workin on getting around, it would only work with 4 players, movment is one phase 2 players move squads at the same time, shooting the same and assault the same, if it was one player moving as another is shooting it would be crappy, by simultaneous i mean each phase 2 players move, shoot then assualt. just to make a game faster and a little harder and maybe interesting to, i got a few battles to play and work out a few of these problems.
once i have done it and got the rules set to something good that works i'll take pics and do a battle report n post it on here, as it is i just got a few new models so ill be painting a fair amount for now lol

Ok I think I get what is happening.
So let's say we have Imperial Guard against Space Orks.
The Imperial Guard win the roll to go first.
The Imperial Guard moves all of its models, then the Orks move all of their models.
Imperial Guard fires with all of its models (or has some run), the Orks fire with all of their models (or has some of them run)
The Imperial Guard then does any assaults, and then the Orks do any assaults.
Is that what you meant by simultaneous?

yes and no, i have been trying to get it so when, say, the gaurd move the orks move at the same time, then both fire at the same time, if say 2 squadsare firing at one another roll for initiative as who spoted who first or wo reacts first, assult is the only one im having real problems with.
but you got it damnnear what i am thinkin of trying to get working.
