1 x Battlewagon big shoota, reinforced ram & boarding plank

1 x Stompa

Orks went first. Game in kill points with pitched battle deployment.

Turn 1

Lootas put 2 wounds on a Trygon while the Stompa dishes out the pain and wastes all but one Warrior and some Termagants. Deffkopters attack Hive Guard to stop any ranged anti tank and end up killing a unit.

Raveners move to attack Deffkopters as the rest of the horde moves forward. Last Hive Guard unit kills the last Deffkopter while the Raveners multi assault the other two, both Kopters are killed but a Ravener is sliced up by a buzzsaw. A Trygon with one of the Hive Tyrant manages to assault a Battlewagon and pops it.

Turn 2

The Stompa unleashes super skorcha and Raveners do a burny dance, one dies another takes 2 wounds. The Stompa also blows up some Termagants, but they go to ground and get plenty of cover saves. The Stompa finishes off by unleashing Grot rokkits at a Hive Tyrant which finishes it off as it was shot by Lootas. Another unit of Lootas polish off the wounded Trygon. Nobz bail out their Wagon leaving the cowardly Warboss and duke it out with the Trygon while the Boyz out the busted Wagon fire at Hormagaunts; the Nobz lose combat but bravely stay in the fight.

Raveners still steaming from the Stompa fire charge forward and attack the Lootas, a single Loota is killed but the Raveners are all smashed up. The Trygon Prime charges the Stompa and deals a immobilised result, weapon destroyed (which it saves) and the Stompa also loses a structure point, though the Stompa returns ramming it's chain fist up through the Trygon and slicing it in half up the centre. Both Hormagaunt units and the remaining Tyrant pile into the Nobz and Boyz killing both units with Trygon help.

Turn 3

The Stompa fires and kills the last Trygon while Boyz in the Wagons fire and kill all the Hormagaunts along with Loota support, the other Loota unit fires at the Termagant horde while the Warboss moves his Battlewagon towards them, he bails out fires a ball of skorcha flame and then dives into the battle ripping Termagants to pieces - after saves and fearless saves only a single Termagant remains in combat!

The next wave of Raveners attack the same Loota unit and rip a few to pieces with rending claws but take wounds also making it a draw in combat. The Hive Guard manage to immobilise the Stompa altogether while the Hive Tyrant all on it's own blasts the rear of a Battlewagon smashing it and then assaults the Boyz, they stay locked in combat. The single Warrior charges into combat and rips the into the Warboss killing him but not before the Warboss smashes it into pieces sending exoskeleton and carapace in all directions; the Big Mek actually does the deed and kills the last Termagant.

Turn 4

Orks cannot shoot anything as all locked in combat, only the Big Mek makes a run through cover and the other unit of Boyz still in a Wagon moves and assaults the Tyrant. In combat the Tyrant slaughters more Boyz but gets taken out with a power klaw to the face and the Lootas and ripped to pieces by rending claws. The Zoanthropes come down and land behind the Stompa, one Zoanthrope fails a psychic test but the other crackles the psychic warp lance and claims a structure point on the Stompa.

Turn 5

Boyz get back into the Wagon and make a move while the other Boyz run towards the Stompa while the Big Mek moves into that direction also. The last Loota unit fires at the Zoanthropes but only puts a wound on one. The Tyranids have better luck with the Myceptic Spore claiming a structure point from the Stompa, though the Zoanthropes fail but the Raveners speed through terrain and then up the building killing the Lootas while all but one Ravener dies, the single Ravener gets revenge and chases off the Lootas cutting them down.

Turn 6

The Boyz in the Battlewagon smash through the ruin where the single Ravener is hiding and gun down is snake ass. The Hive Guard fire and manage to penetrate the Stompas armour, they claim the last structure point and it goes down like a sack of spuds. The Zoanthropes go to lance the Big Mek but oen fails a psychic test and becomes brown bread.

In the end Tyranids win with about 11 kill points and Orks 9.

Nice report - makes me want to put together a city terrain board.

Does your friend find splitting the orks into 3 squads of 20 work better than 2 squads of 30? My bud used to run the squads of 20 choppas (So not quite the same thing), but he found that they tended to break too easily.

The super-heavy isn't unbalanced in a game if only one side is running one?

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

Observations on complex unit wound allocation: If you're feeling screwed, your opponent is probably doing it right.

Cannock

Well 2 squads of 30 don't go in Battlewagons, so yeah several squads of 20 work better as go inside Wagons.

Well Orks with choppas is his problem and did he take bosspoles?

Well 600 points of super heavy one side and 600 extra points whatever the other side; not really, no.

Well like I said the super heavy is 600 points which gets the other army 600 points of mroe nastyness; in thise case another Hive Tyrant and Raveners which probably aren't the best - some Carnifexes would have been a better choice.

Anyway, the Stompa blasted stuff to pieces and cut up a Trygon Prime. Hope to defeat the Stompa is ranged attack from Zoanthropes or Trygon assault and hope they kill it before it kills them as it will instant death them!

It actually seems like a really fun challenge. The point exchange should even things up, though, a superheavy can get pretty killy.

Ipso facto auto-hit.

Aye they can do some damage. The Stompa didn't do a huge deal but it did kill 4 Warriors, loads of Termagants, a Trygon Prime, a Trygon and probably something else I've done.

if you want to include superheavies try to play spearhead....the superheavy use is balanced out in that if it starts the game it gets an automatic penetrating hit..and the fact the spearhead formations can give advantages which can offset the superheavy...

Spearhead is great fun, and because of this expansion I've finally bought the IG plastic superheavies (1 shadowsword kit done, the baneblade box is in my FLGS), and I've ordered the eldar scorpion superheavy grav tank from forge world. After the successful spearhead tourney held last month, we've decided to make this an annual event...

I've seen the spearhead one and it's not cool. You pay extra points to "allow" you to use your super heavy and take a penetrating hit? No thanks! I'm not paying points to use a super heavy. It can just be agreed with opponents perfectly fine.

Interesting, but sounds like you've probably wasted some money as in Spearhead you can only take one Spearhead formation so only one super heavy..

Dont mind..choice is cool, and besides an IG player can never resist to collect both...and yes you can only use 1 superheavy in a spearhead game....

With the astropath it can come out on turn 2, in this case there is no penetrating hit, as it applies only if you deploy it on turn 1....so not much of a big deal having it in reserve, as it has enough range anyway, and by then you hopefully can see the disposition of the enemy forces, especially if the opponent took mechanised assault, as that spearhead has to come in turn 1...thus instead of him alpha striking you, it is the other way around....

When reading the lists I thought the bugs were going to be in big trouble.

Aye, I thought of the old reserve trick when that Spearhead come out.

I thought they was done for TBH but they wrecked gak at the end and the Orks took it hard.

There's another of my reports floating round here, a recent one. You should check it out.

Interesting, best Tyranid tactics is keeping ur whole army in reserve. I have played Tyranid players that just like to charge and they fail. But when they deepstrike or come from the side of the table they are very effective beacuse most of the players are use to the same old tactics to charge or fire ur enamies up in the center of the feild.

Not really. I have no reserve bonus and Trygons cannot assault from deep strike nor can Hive Tyrant so will stand there and get shot to pieces. I also have nothing which can outflank. So that requires a entire list change, something I'm not doing, plus your army comes on piecemeal and will get taken out without much hassle.

Question...Do Shoota boyz lose an attack when they equip shoota's? And why would it not be better to have Slugga/Choppa since they are better at Melee?

No, slugga boyz gain one for having two CCWs.

It would be better to have slugga boyz in the transports. Shoota boyz are better on foot as they get a couple of rounds of shooting before charging.

Sluggas die very quickly and have bad weapons but I guess the good part is that they are cheap in points.
