Hey there, me and my 40K club recently began entering in tournaments. We entered our first one a few days back, Conclave Gaming Convention in Limerick. We all did fairly average, i had a Chaos Daemons list, my 2 friends both ran Blood Angels lists, but very different lists at the same time. Our club decided we want to gear up our lists for more competetive player, for example, one of them is running a Double Jetseer list and the other is running a Double Land Raider Assault Terminator list. I recently started Eldar and ive been trying to make a list thats good enough to not get slaughtered by these kinds of lists but isnt a complete tournament build that most Eldar players would use in tournaments, for example Full Mechdar. This is the list ive come up with, please rate it and give advice!

HQ
Eldrad Ulthran - 210pts

Elites
6 Fire Dragons, including Exarch, Crack Shot, Tank Hunters, Firepike on the Exarch - 136pts
6 Howling Banshees, including Exarch, Acrobatics, War Shout, Mirrorswords on the Exarch - 128pts

Troops
6 Jetbike Guardians, 2 Shuriken Cannons - 152pts
6 Jetbike Guardians, 2 Shuriken Cannons - 152pts
10 Dire Avengers, including Exarch, Bladestorm, Dual Shuriken Catapults - 152pts

Fast Attack
Nothing

Heavy Support
1 Falcon, Shuriken Cannon, Spirit Stones, Scatter Laser - 150pts
1 Fire Prism, Shuriken Cannon, Spirit Stones, Holo Fields - 160pts
5 Dark Reapers, including Exarch, Fast Shot, Tempest Launcher on Exarch - 227pts

Dedicated Transports
1 Wave Serpent, Shuriken Cannon, Spirit Stones, Twin Linked Scatter Lasers - 135pts
1 Wave Serpent, Shuriken Cannon, Spirit Stones, Twin Linked Bright Lances - 155pts

Total - 1747pts

Thanks in advance guys!

I think the dark reapers are pretty nice, but I'd drop them for a second fire prism.

Shuriken cannons on fire prism at this point level seems a waste, and on the falcon for that matter. You should be keeping yourself out of 24 inch range with those tanks.

Howling banshees are pretty hard to use in 5th edition to get into the fight when you want them to. If you've got the skills, go for it.

Everything else seems pretty decent. My real issue is wondering what squads are going in what transports.

Banshees become a counter-assault role in a vehicle oriented mobile list. I had 10 scorpions in my 1850 with Yriel and ended up taking both out. I just couldn't really spend that many points on what turned into counter-assault, rather than 'in your face' which is how I wanted to play Eldar to begin with. The vehicle assault rules coupled with having a rear-only exit for troops means that Eldar mech assault isn't truly as viable as other armies.

you dont seem to have anything listed that screams out as posing any kind of threat to your opponent, and what you do have that has the potential you just dont have enough of. your banshees may get in a decent round of combat but then they are toasted...same thing goes for your dragons, yes they may take out that key unit but its only one out of few dangerous targets. dark reapers are fun...but for the cost you can get another upgraded prism which can do the job better and still have pts left over...and maybe fill out your banshees more with the pts saved so they can get more than just one decent combat. also think about changing your troops...jetbikes are good for last minute objective grabing but even if they come in early and all you do is boost all over the place they will still go down extremely fast, maybe another unit of avengers in a serpent and leave a 3man unit of bikes for last minute grabing.

also how does eldrad work out for you...if you find you only use him for a few situations you might wanna think about 2 farseers instead, if you do it right you will be able to do the same thing but cheaper. but if you find yourself using most of the farseer powers then stay with eldrad. and i personally find his redeployment very situational so i end up using regular farseers for cheaper.

and thats all for the moment. might have more later

Well, the list looks pretty good.
However, the GJB's are often hardly worth their points. I'd drop them and take another DA unit in a Serpent.
Two scoring units protected by tanks should be sufficient in 1750 games.

Couple little things to think about:
- Fire Dragons: Tank Hunters is overkill. Is one additional shot with 6" more range and ignoring cover worth 41-56 pts to you? That is the cost of 2-3 more regular dragons.

- Banshees: With banshees you have to ensure that your first strike is going to wipe the opposing target. With only 6 banshees and no ride-along doomseer this will be REALLY tough.

- Jetbikes: This config will work despite what others say. You may want to consider a embolden lock with them to protect your investment.

- Falcon: You have 24", 36", and 48" range guns which is rather conflicting strategy wise. Might I recommend dropping the underslug cannon and taking an EML to give you 3 S8 48" shots. Also, the falcon's role here is a little misguided. The falcon is not what it was in 4th edition, so if a single glance or Pen gets through you're assured the vehicle is not going to shot next round. It's best to keep it away from the front lines for this reason, so the prefered use of this vehicle is a 5 man DA unit inside with long range guns.

- Fire Prism: A single prism is a recipe for scatter. Yes, you will find that you can fire with guide sometimes with a single prism, but you'll want the AP3 large blast and AP1 small at times.

- Dark Reapers:
The poor reapers don't seem to fit any role in this list. Everything else you have is fast while the reapers are a sitting target. Best configurations for the Exarch are Fast Shot/EML and Crack Shot/Tempest Launcher.

Stick with Eldrad if you are using two fire prisms and no council. Being able to Guide two units and grant something about to move up the field a re-roll to save is pretty valuable. On foot he stands a chance of getting taken out however, so be careful to note any deepstriking enemy units and place Eldrad somewhere you force them to make a VERY good scatter die roll.

Or attach him to your DA squad and snipe with them from a distance. You can still use his powers out of the WS.

I saw you had the Reapers, and Reapers are good, but they dont seem to have a place here. Keep the Banshees in the Falcon if you wish, but you might be better off replacing the Falcon with a cheap 100 point Wave Serpent, dropping your exarch and fire pike, then buying another naked Fire Prism.

I'd also recommend only buying holo-fields on the prisms. You wont be moving them very much anyways, and can't shoot is the minimum glance result regardless.

Definately try and get a warlock for your bike squads.

Here's a summary of what I suggest, without modding your list too much.

Elites

Drop Exarch and extras. Saves: 25 points.

Troops

Add a warlock to each GJB, give them embolden for leadership saves. Costs: 100 points.

Heavy Support

A) Replace Reapers with Holo Fields only Fire Prism. Saves: 77 points.
B) Drop Spirit Stones from other Fire Prism. Saves: 20 points.
C) This isnt a change, but I see what you are doing with the Falcon, gaining a bunch of Str 6 shots. That's fine, but I'd try to pull it back to pulse rifle range ASAP if it survives dropping the Bashees off. In all honesty, I would hang it back and fire the pulse rifle only, using the Banshees within to counter a deepstriker hitting your side of the field after the Falcon unloads it's shots into them.

Total Modification

22 points shaved.

Heavy foot sloggers lost.

Skimmer and Link up ability gained.

Lost some range and an exarch, gained warlocks and re-rolls for leadership tests on your JBS.

With your 25 remaining points, you can..

A) Add another guardian jetbike.
B) Upgrade a Shuriken cannon on one of your Prisms to a missile launcher, giving it another Str 8 shot to fire, especially if you are guiding it with Eldrads re-rolling goodness.
C) Other stuff I cant recall off hand without a codex. =)

GL and HF.
