Well my subject says it all... How and what should I give my wolf lord for gear when I place him on a TWM?

I know this is subjective to player styles, but what are some things that can help me get the most bang for the buck? If I am gonna spend over 150 pts on a wolflord and his mount, I want him to really make an impact on the game.

So, in short, what should I give him and how should I use him?

Depends on what you want to use him for, and how many points you've got to work with. Saga of the Warrior Born is always good, as is Runic Armor, Wolf Tooth Necklace and Wolf Tail Talisman. Just choose your weapons. For tank killing, TH/SS and a meltabomb. To plow through infantry, dual lightning claws and belt of Russ. On the cheap, but capable of both, take Belt of Russ and MotW.

Wolf Lord with Frost Blade, Stormshield, Melta Bombs, Wolf Tail Talisman, a Thunderwolf Mount and Saga of the Warrior Born is 245 points.

Put him with a max size unit of Fenrisian Wolves and he turns into a CC monster with 10 ablative wounds.

Well,

Recently my two main enemies have been CSM: Nurgle armies and Nids.

But for my lord, I usually always take: Frost Weapon, Wolf Tooth necklace, wolf tailsman, runic armor, storm bolter and always two wolfs. Being on a mount, I am thinking about for going the storm bolter and take a storm shield. Also I may swap out the frost weapon for a power fist or Thunderhammer. Maybe I would run him with a full squad of wolves and charge him head long into combat somewhere.

on board Terminus Est

- Stormshield (3++ save)
- Runic armor (2+ save)
- Wolftail talisman (5+ save vs. psychic attacks)
- Wolf tooth necklace (always hit on 3+ versus units with WS)
- Thunder hammer
- Saga of hte Bear (Eternal Warrior)

ALL HAIL SANGUINIUS! No one can beat my Wu Tang style!

Double Wolf Claws on Thunderwolf with Runic Armour and Wolftail Tally/Wolf tooth Necklace. Mark him as Saga of the Warrior Born. Stick him with a unit of 10-15 Wolves.

This is how he works:
Charge into combat and declare reroll wounds. You want to not kill that many. When the enemy swings back, they will probably kill several wolves and make the combat closer to a tie. Therefore you hopefully stay in combat. The following turn blow the crap out of him with your tons of additional attacks and then in your phase you will have a huge bonus to your attacks for that phase that you get to choose which unit to kill with.

I hate hard counters. In a game of rock, paper, scissors, I hate playing any of the factions because no matter what you choose you might as well not deploy against your hard counter. I want to use a gun. Rock, paper, and scissors could all probably still beat gun, but gun will never feel like a game is a lost cause.

This is Close to what I would Take; only thing is drop the Thunder Hammer. Sure S10 is fricken fantastic, but you are already paying for Rending(in the Cost of the Mount) why pay more points to take the rending away? Also I wouldn't pay for the Runic Armor The 2+ is nice but you have a 3++ from the SS, so you will Always be rolling a 3+ anyways, why pay 20 points for a slightly better normal save(that gets negated by most things that negate Power Armor anyways, there are very few AP3 weapons), and a 5+ Invulnerable vs Psychic Powers(you already have the 3+ inv).

So should be:
Storm Shield(or Belt of Russ if you need the 5 points)
Wolf Tail Talisman
Wolf tooth Necklace
Saga of the Bear
Bolt Pistol
Thunder wolf Mount
Chainsword(If belt of Russ is chosen)

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

While S5 rending is neat, S10 no AS is far better against heavy infantry and vehicles, making him much more useful. Wolf claws are S5 no AS with rerolls- good for chopping up infantry and combining with Saga of the Warrior. Bear is good for survivability, but only against S10, so not hugely necessary when sporting wolves an a 3++.

On the frost blade, just remember that a Wolf Claw re-rolling damage is usually better (if not getting the +1 A from a pistol); rerolling is statistically better than a +1 chance to the dice roll. The only time the Frost Blade is better is on T7+ and is only marginally better on T7. Against vehicles, the Frost Blade is obviously better.

Talisman is a 5+ to ignore the psychic power and THEN you get saves. Plus you can stack them (3 would be 3 chances) and they effect the whole squad. Handy if you face psykers a lot.

And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.

First of all, don't tailor your list before fighting someone. Just use your normal list.

As far as Wolf lords go here is how I see it.
Runic armor is a must have, as is a stormshield.
You need to be able to charge nasty stuff like TH/SS terminators and survive. These both allow you to do that.

For weapons: A thunderhammer decent option. However, do you really want your 200+ pt model hunting rhinos?
1 wolf claw is what I have found to be the best. The rerolls make it better than a frost blade, plus its cheaper.

As far as saga's, bear isn't needed since you are Toughness 5. Warrior born is ok, but to often you lose the bonuses during your opponents assault phase.

I would either leave him without a saga or use saga of mastery. The rerolling moral around him helps support the rest of your army and it doesn't cost a ton.

So in summary

Runic Armor
Storm Shield
Wolf Claw
Saga of Majesty (maybe, depending on the rest of your army)
