how/where do you place the template so you can start the second sentence of the rules? that starts "once you place this template..."

Nothing i found either in the spell description and/or the RIP rules say how to place this template.

As there is no range, place the template however you like.

It's a magical vortex spell. On p31, it says that you place a magical vortex template in base contact with the caster and within his front arc, then move as indicated in the spell.

But here's the tricky point...

You place the template. You roll the artillery dice for distance moved. If you get a misfire, you centre the template on the caster and roll to scatter the template movement. Obviously, the risk is that the template scatters over your own guys.

But, the caster can end a remains in play spell at any time (p36). So, if the spell scatters towards you, can you immediately remove the template or do you have to take the hits?

you have to resolve the spell, then decide whether or not to leave it in play.

You cant go OH gak NEVERMIND! The misfire and scatter is representing the wizard losing control of the spell.

That seems sensible. I'm a dwarf player anyway.

That would also probably fall under the previous Warriors book, where people would end Call to glory (the create-a-hero) after the opponent had made attacks, but before the model died, so you never gave up any points and kept your champion....witht he result of "you can be a dick about it, best not to be"

Does this spell hit every model in the path that it moved or only those models that it settles on? This could make a massive difference.

Hits every model in the path... and if you go for the higher casting cost it uses the large template.

Might be the scariest spell out there.

2,500 - Discipline. Duty. Unyielding Will.
2,000 - He alone has the Emperor's soul in his blood.
2,500 - Order. Unity. Obedience.

it is, used in a game vs Lizardmen yesterday, one casting killed the Slann, 17 Temple Guard and 15 Saurus Warriors. We called it after that and I apologised for using it
