OK, so in the Black Templar codex it says that "One other Initiate may be armed with one of the following weapons:", and then goes on to list the flamer, meltagun and plasma gun. My question is, does the Initiate keep his bolter/bolt pistol and CCW? I'd say that he does, as the entry doesn't mention replacing, but I just want to be sure.

For thirteen years I had a dog with fur the darkest black. For thirteen years he was my friend, oh how I want him back.

They keep the BP CCW.

The reason is that in 4th when the codex was written (and in 3rd, IIRC, been a while since I looked at them), there was a rule in the rulebook that said if you took a weapon upgrade, you lost your original wargear, which is why no mention is made of it in the Codex.

Come 5th, and that rule is gone, so RaW you now keep the BP and CCW when you take the Special Weapon.

I wish =(

Unfortunately, however, our codex specifically mentions the following rule, pg 30, bottom right under "options".

"Any model who takes an upgrade weapon loses the weapon he was originally armed with unless otherwise stated."

So no, they do not count as having CCW/BP when you take a meltagun/flamer/whatever.

Apologies for that, I had not consulted the codex before answering, and for that I am sorry.
