Can you not chose to use hand weapon and shield if you have something like a flail or a great weapon as well? The rules seem to say so, but I wanted to verify this before I cried about the rule changing .

If you have a weapon that is not a hand weapon, you have to use that instead of the hand weapon/shield.

I concur. I finally got around to painting my Tzeentch Warriors (armed with halberds and shields) and then this. And I really liked how they came out, too... GW seems intent on punishing me for some reason.

And my ultra-surviveable hammerers took a hit as well.

So giving shield to my Great Weapon Dwarfs just gives them a +1 Armor Save against Shooting and Magic...

Is that even worth it?

Funny, they use missile weapons as an example of a special weapon. I guess quarrelers have to fight with their crossbow and shield in close combat.
