Subject: Too humid outside. Spray paint in basement?

I need to put a clear spray coat on my finnished minis. It's way too hot and humid out, and has been this way all summer. I keep the humidity in my basement down to about 55. Does anyone out there do their spray work in a box indoors? I'm worried about it getting on the windows. I plan on using fans and open windows for ventilation and staying away from lights and open flames.
Any thoughts?

Basement spraying should be fine. I've never had a problem with a mini I sprayed in my basement.

I guess my biggest concern is paint getting on things like windows, etc. Do the floating paint particles cause a problem?

If the area is well ventilated and you are using a spray booth, you will get very little unwanted overspray (apart from the spray that goes onto/into the booth).
Just remember a mask is always worth wearing, especially spraying in an isolated room.

What is your basement like? is it unfinished?
If you've got a big, open basement & spray in the middle, any little particles of paint will kind of disperse into the air & dry well beore landing.
In a finished basement, you need to be more careful.
Tell us what kind of a situation you're looking at & we can give you a better idea.

I have a well vented basement but I still wear a mask. If there is any question of any humidity in the basement just run a de-humidifer for a few hours prior. This will give you the best possible spraying conditions inside.

It's crucial that whenever you spray inside, that you wear a mask, and afterwards ventilate the area if at all possible. That nastiness that's in your air will get into your lungs days aver the spraying is done. Trust me on this. I did that back when we lived in an apartment less than half the size of our current house. The air filters ended up with black junk from the black spray can, and it wasn't even sprayed in the same room. You'll also cough up junk in the color of the spray can which I assure you is no fun.
In short, be safe. Don't cut corners on spraying inside at the risk of your health.

I don't know about regular spray paint, but with primer, the little particles will dry in the air, and then form a fine layer of colored dust over everything. A possible alternative is this: wait for rain. If you have a covered area outside (some kind of lean-to or whatnot) then when it is raining is a good time (if it is a rain lasting a decent amount of time, that is). If you don't have some kind of outdoor shelter to spray in, then wait until the rain is finished. Just barely finished. If where you live is anywhere like where I live, it should give you a narrow window to spray outside.

Also do not spray near your water heater or furnance when it has a pilot light.

As long as you aren't directly spraying the window, the only problem should be a layer of spray dust. If you only do it once, it won't be any different than dust already down there.
The dust just wipes away like any other kind of dust particle. I spray in my basement all the time, and that is the only issue I ever have.
