Subject: Optimal Loota squad size at 1000pts

Ahoy hoy.
If I have say, 14 lootas, in a smaller game, (1000 - 1500pts), would it be worth keeping the one squad of 14, or splitting them down to two squads of 7. It seems that the multiple smaller squads would be more flexible for dealing with different threats, but theyre more fragile, not benefitting from the leadership bonus you get from having 10+ orks.
What say you on this matter?

not an orkplayer but you should ask dashofpepper he has pretty good ideas on how to use lootas. I think his take on it is eithere use sqauds of 5 or sqauds of 15. ymmv.

Most people say 15 or 5. High numbers increase effectiveness (though you will often overkill with that many potential shots) and mitigate the true ork weakness: leadership. 5-man squads can still be effective (somewhat; you generally need to get at least the 2 shots per man to have a good shot at a Rhino/Razorback), are cheap, and if you lose them to a failed leadership test, it's less of a loss. If you have the points for 15, consider 3 5-man squads (if you have the elite slots), and see how it does versus the 15.

I have had much more luck with 5 vs 15. 15 lootas take up a lot space - trying to keep them in area terrain and in good shooting positions is difficult. With 5 its much easier to hide in the terrain and at 75 pts, its nto a big deal to loose them.
Sometimes they do great, sometimes they stink. What I have learned is to not count on them. They're worth taking but don't work your enite strategy around them.

I may experiment with the 3 squads of 5 then. Thankyou gentlemen.

I've had good success with 1 unit of 14 in 1k tournaments. They generally don't receive a lot of attention and don't break and run due to a couple heavy bolter wounds.
