Concerns? Questions? I'm looking for a moderate to high competitiveness against armies that field up to 3 land raiders, 3 misc tanks or a couple of sky ravens as well as a lot of drop podding. The thing is, I don't think there will be any remaining d'fish, once the savvy opponent knows that the FWs are walking on. So, let's say you're reasonably lucky and they're functional, given that d'fish only move up to 12", I'm thinking that leaving the FWs until turn 4 is gonna hurt on missions where the objectives are deep into enemy deployment.
I do like the different take on tau. List-wise, I think the XV88s need BKs, but a good list. Your Strategy? I dunno.

Don't really want to go above 1750 at this point in time and can't really find the room to put it in. Oh crud, your right. Compleetly missed that when writing, no problem, I'll just drop 2 pathfinders (so 3 squads of 5) and add em in (team leader too, forgot that doi), and why not at that point 4 extra points for a 2 fusion blasters on a stealth unit *will edit list on top*. Keeps same points then as well Brothererekose wrote: the weasel king wrote:*turn 4 forget positional relay roll for the normal 2+ for the 3 troops, jump in the remaining devilfishes and zoom towards objectives

Follows standard ninja tau except instead of crisis suits I'm aiming for quantity of shots and have more anti-tank at the beginning.

Eek. I wouldn't add the FBs. That would eliminate 4 shots of anti-I <<-- edited a typo, sorry
. I used to run the Stealths with the 2 FBs, but found I'd waste shots. I'd would keep them strictly Burst Cannons.

The ninja thing is okay ... I just thought that there'd be kroot for the outflank, deeper penetration. Eh. On second thought, I'm taking back the doubt, as I'm not experienced enough with the tactic.
Glad I could just point out the bonding for the broadsides.

Alright just played 2 games with this list. I think that loosing when on all 8 reserve rolls on 2+ (both games) I get 8 1s is justified...Although this makes me want to put away my tau for a while and go back to the nerfed nids...

Maybe, odds of getting the 8 1s in a row was 1:1,679,616...I'm sure I should do better next time.....But then again, that's the gamblers fallacy lol...Ah well.
Anyone got suggestions for improvements? And before anyone says anything please no kroot, I hate em.

Test your Dice before retiring the Tau. If they roll a certain number more often it might be time to get another Set. I had one die that rolled ones so consistantly, I cut it open. It was manufacturing defect where the die had a huge air pocket that was wieghting it to roll ones.

Interesting, but I don't think so. I have 2 sets of the red/black dice and a blue dice cube. In both cases for my nids and chaos, and crons, etc. I roll statistically average. Sometime higher, sometimes lower. With the tau I consistently run lower (don't say it's in my mind, I've kept track )

Looks good, just rember that you should pick of the leaders then go after squads. I feel unit buffs are going to clean your clock if you dont fallow the plan.

I tend to shy away from any group with an hq in it in the games I play (mostly against BA). The hq teams that my friend makes are pure nastiness and my efforts would require at least 2 turns of my entire army concentrating fire on him. I find it's better to focus on the objectives ( kp is harder but still doable when running from a death squad) and completely ignore those pesky named BA characters...That and any squad with a sanguinary priest in it.....

didnt know what bks were there for a sec...never heard em refered as such cause EVERYONE takes em on any squad larger than...one model?
yea I think ur pathfinders are gonna die...in large large numbers...but if you mostly play BA then you can actually nail them quite effectively...
if all else fails FOF them and use their markerlights to open up effectively on those DC and AM squads that just LOVE to soak up fire... hqs are very nasty, But if find that the main strength of BA is rush, and in that they are like any other horde army only tougher. To that end I would suggest wipeout being your major target (which, with your no troops till turn four plan might either be right up your alley or totally off, depends on how you like to move) cause BA rush tends to be a kill or be killed situation...
I dunno about the warfish, cause for what you're looking at the devilfishes need to move 12" a turn anyways, so maybe on the pathfinders but not for your firewarriors, and you're gonna need those FW to come in late with such small squad sizes...

Well, if you're not gonna go back to bugs, (one of my current armies) and you're going to try the ninja tactic again, then I've got some other ideas.
Besides, you know for damn sure, that the parade of '1's won't happen again.

The rethink I have on this is that since he needs to survive, so he might need a couple Shield Drones, unless you play on tables with a *lot* of LoS blocking terrain.

the weasel king wrote:5x Pathfinders team leader upgrade bonding knife 3x Devilfish with disruption
Do you have the models to go to 6 to 8 PFs? For survivability? And since the d'fish are going to start on the table, they may as well be useful. Instead of 3 dice/shots, I suggest the point investment of the Warfish: SMS, TA, MT, DisPod. A decent, 7 die, anti-I gunboat.
the weasel king wrote:3x Broadsides
Good.
For the Warfish upgrades, it be necessary to shave a XV88 and a Stealth suit .... again, these recommendations are in mind that you'll try the Ninja tactic again.

Then maybe just pamper your Tau and get them their own dedicated dice. I used to not have dice superstitions, but when I got my Eldar army and shared the dice between the two armies I started to have some extremely bizzare rolls. It got so crazy that we started keeping track of my rolls and found that over a three month period my rolling in games was about 30% under the statistical norm. It got to be a running joke with my friend and many theories were bandied about. The 3 month rolling slump ended with my getting 7 sets of new dice for christmas from my wife and friends.
I don't know if it was self-fulling prophecy, my dice being left in the truck during a hot southern summer, or if the tau are just more mathematically succeptable to variations in the dice rolls. I do know that each of my armies have thier own dedicated set of Dice now.
(As for my old dice, I gave them away to my non-superstitious friend where they lasted all of a game before he threw them away.)

I return your toast, but all I have is my JW Dundee's Honey Brown.
In answer to your question. If you read the above you will note that I went through a prolonged spell of poor rolling. It was so bad that my opponents, some of whom are of a very competitive nature, would make comments like "dude, I'm not superstitious and don't believe in blaming luck, but you need to get new dice". That Christmas I was given 7 sets of nice new dice with the provision that I got rid of the others and never let the new dice touch the old. After I got rid of the old dice I assaigned my new dice to each of my armies. As I went through the dice I noticed that one of the GW dice packs had warped dice. I test rolled them and 2 of the dice consistently rolled 2's, so I went back to the store and horse traded for a dice set that wasn't warped.(I say horse traded because the store was out of that particular dice pack but had some store dice that matched.
Anyway, I got into the habit of testing my dice and I found 3 smaller red dice that rolled ones almost withhout fault. I took these dice out to my workshop and started to "investigate/alter" these dice to see how bad they were. The first one I used a grinder to round the "6" side into a cone that should have always rolled off of that side to stop it from rolling "1's". It still rolled 1's about 50% of the time. I then cut all three of the dice in half with a bandsaw(used pliers to hold dice) Found air pocket deformations in all three. Oddly, I have yet to find any dice that always roll sixes but if I do they will suffer the same fate as the low rollers. No point in playing when the elemt of chance is removed.
