So, I'm sitting here poking at my rulebook and considering a second army... thinking Khador, I was flipping through the selections in the back of the book, and suddenly came across the Doomblades (i think that's what the big, sword-wielding berzerker dudes are called...). On reading about them, I think to myself "Dronze, you seem to have found a hellacious unit here, with massive potential to do ugly, nasty, rapey things to your opponents with, but you need to figure out how to take these ugly, rapey, stabby units, and make them even uglier and stabbier.... and how to get them where they're going wihout having them stab eachother in the face-hole."

So, I ask, what ideas and executions are there for making this unit most effective in a khador list?

Things I've gotten other players to admit...

To be honest, there's not a huge amount you can do to make them better, due to the wonders of being untargetable by any spells. What you can do is debuff your enemy. Keep an eye on what spells and abilities you have that, instead of helping you, hurt your enemy. Also keep an eye on tightly packed enemy units. Those are your best bet to tear apart. It also doesn't hurt, of course, that they're absolutely brutal all on their lonesome.

While you can't boost them with spells, there are a couple things that help them out. For example: Fenris. Fenris. Oh, and Fenris. Being able to stop swinging when you're out of (enemy) targets is a wonderful, wonderful thing, and a model with two doomblades of his own is pretty nice, don't you think? The unit attachment does the same thing but better (Tough doomreavers! Eeeeeeeeee!), but at FA:1, you're not going to get as many as you'd want unless you're running eButcher's list (affectionatley known as "Oh, gak, doomreavers").

That's about all you'll find to actually buff them, though, so most of your efforts will be looking into debuffing your enemy. Ternions are great for softening up bigger targets with Ice Cage, and Drakhuns can be handy for preventing your enemies from getting the charge off on them (countercharge ftw). Otherwise, have a good hard look at your spell list, and consider creative ways to punch holes in the enemy line to let your Doomreavers at your enemy's soft, squishy center.

run them close to prime vlad, cast wind wall, make them immune to most shooting, walk them up the field and dump them on your opponents face.

There ain't nearly enough Salvage in this thread!

Actually you CAN buff them by including their unit attachment. The Greylord Escort makes
them Tough and grants them Silence even without Fenris. Then there are those
warcasters with feats that go well with them or control area spells that eases their
way into combat.

Irusk- Inhospitable Ground slows the enemy down. His feat increases your
Doom Reavers' survivability.

eIrusk- Tough checks if they're close enough with or without the Escort.

Butcher- Feat for the Extra damage die. OUCH.

eButcher- Feat can give them rage tokens and out of activation movement and attacks.
I don't think it triggers Berserk though.

Strakhov- Is there something he can't do? Iron Fist feat gives them a sick
threat range.

Old Witch- Field of Talons feat locks down enemy infantry. So if the birds don't
kill them, Orgothian blade in the face will.

Zerkova has a theme force with them, but I'm not sure how well that works out. Mostly
because Zerkova isn't very straightforward.

eVlad...is eVlad.

I'm doing this all from memory, so check your rulebook to see if I missed something.

Vlad and Sorscha both do reasonably well with them, the first due to Signs and Portents (more dice is always good), the latter due to Fog of War pushing them to 15 DEF against ranged. eVlad also does pretty well, what with Transference letting them boost.

eButcher is probably the best with 'em, simply due to his theme list. While it won't let you take anything else, 5 full units and a pair of Spriggans at 50 points is pretty brutal.
