Subject: Teclis Irresistable Force Question?

Alright, so concerning Teclis casting with irristable force on doubles, the FAQ had this to say:
Change the last paragraph to “In addition, any spell cast by
Teclis will be cast with irresistible force on any successful
casting roll that is a double, however it will only be considered
a miscast if the roll includes a double 6.”
Now to me, the inclusion of the "successful casting roll" would mean that in order for the double to become irresistable force, the total dice rolled must first exceed the casting value of the spell, which changes the way it used to be, although there has been some debate on this. What do you guys think?

you could roll double 1 and it isnt a successful cast, even though he rolled a double.
But my friend keeps casting spells on 1,1,2. with teclis and destroying everything :(

Doesn't he still need to get the casting cost? So a 1,1,2 would fail unless the cost was 4? Getting a double just prevents dispels.

Well unless they have changed Irresistable force to not automatically casting the spell. it doesnt matter for the dice value.

The thing is Teclis has to beat the casting value BEFORE the double makes it irristable force. Both conditions have to apply in order for it to be irristable force. You're friends either been cheating you, or misunderstanding the rules.

Indeed it seems you are correct Angron!
As previously said im pretty sure if you roll an irresistable and don't beat the casting value you still cast the spell (unless it has changed)
Which confused me abit because of the whole rolling 2 dice to cast a 15+ spell just because you have a chance to roll 6,6.
But teclis rule does say any double on a SUCCESSFUL casting attempt.
So apologizes for my misunderstanding!
This is some awesome news though! No more 45% chance to IF with three dice yay!
Thank you!

Also i just noticed that The army book says he IF's on a successful casting that includes a double.
The errata says Change to IF on a successful casting that IS a double.
This mean he can only IF on 2 dice?
or just GW and their silly talk

No, because if you roll {1,2,2} you have still rolled a double.

But a 1, 2, 2 would fail anyway.
Seon, I think that's pushing it. Anyway, you'll probably win your next game as your opponent tries to cast all his spells with three dice.
Teclis + Purple Sun = Much death.

Depends whaty ou are trying to cast - I was giving it as an example of a double. If the casting value is 9 or less then Teclis WOULD cast it with IF

In this case, a 1, 2, 2 wouldn't cast a spell with a casting value of 9. That's the key to the discussion. The FAQ/clarification states that a successful cast that includes a double is IF (the advantage being that it can't be dispelled). The spell still has to be successfully cast AND include a double to gain IF. (Though I may have missed something about Teclis; I don't have his army book to hand).
So, for a spell of casting value 9:
6, 6, 1 is IF/miscast
4, 4, 5 is IF.
3, 4, 5 is cast normally.
2, 2, 3 is failed.
In the general rules: 6, 6 still causes IF/miscast, regardless of casting cost.
The OP's opponent has been playing that any double = IF, regardless of casting cost, and hence reeling off spells left, right and centre.
I think my HE opponent has been playing this way as well. No wonder my dwarfs get a kicking.

I think nos is right because Teclis gets +4 to cast as a level 4 wizard.

D'Oh. Of course. Mixing old and new rules in my head again. Sorry Nos.
Oh well, Teclis gets a bit nastier again. I'll just have to shoot him.
