Did anyone notice that in the magic items section of the rulebook it says that when an army book has the same item that is also printed in the rulebook, for example Enchanted Shield, War Banner or Sword of Might, you are to use the points cost printed in the army book. I see tons of people using 5 point Enchanted Shields despite it being illegal for (atleast nearly) every army book. Has noone else noticed this or noone just cares?

People haven't noticed. Point it out in the army list forum

No, as they said, if your army book has a different points cost listed, you use it for the common items. If you happen to have a 5 point Enchanted Shield in your army book, you are golden. For example, High Elves' Enchanted Shields are cheaper than the BRB, so they would use that point cost.

The point cost change is listed in every FAQ.

Really Davall? High Elves get enchanted shields for less than 5 points? That'd be pretty nice.

*chuckle* No, they get it cheaper than the 15 listed in the books for most other armies. Mea Culpa.

Hehe no worries, the little things are hard to catch.

So to summarize:

if your army book has an item (like the war banner) for cheaper than the BRB, you get the cheaper price.

if your army book has an item (like the enchanted shield) for more expensive than the BRB, you still pay the higher price.

Only once a book that comes out without the enchanted shield in it, can that army take advantage of the super discounted rate on enchanted shields!

I was excited about 1 point enchanted shield for a second...

It is interesting though because I often found myself including the shield at 15 points. At 5 I'd think it'd be a complete no brainer.

I was all giddy before the FAQs about the 5 point shield. I still use it (on a Chaos Sorcerer for a cheap 2+ save), but would have loved it at 5 points.

Well you didn't really need the FAQ, it "clearly" says on pg. 500 "If a magic item is listed both here and in your Warhammer Armies book, use the points value printed with the latter"

Chaos Sorcerers can use shields now? I don't think so. Otherwise the Charmed Shield would be the option they should go for.

The FAQs changed nothing. The rulebook clearly says that in the case of duplicates we are to use the common item points values in the army books and not in the BRB.

They have always been able to use shields with the most recent book. The WoC army book says they can, and have been played that way since the most recent book came out.

pg 500 BRB under Magical Interference, the last paragraph should clear up the confusion. Also note it says if you can take either normal armor or a shield, you can take any magical armor, and specifically mentions Chaos Sorcerers.

I use the charmed shields on other characters, so the enchanted shield can end up on Sorcerers as they are actually functional in combat compared to most wizards. Enchanted Shield + Disc of Zteentch = 1+ armor save. That's kind of nifty for a model that will eat a LOT of missile fire.
