With the new rules you have to pick your lore before you play and since I pick my spells I take Shield of Saphery,Curse of Arrow Attraction,Fury of Cain,and Flames of the Phoenix.

I personally would run all swordmasters make it two regiments of spearmen to make the core min. and then take max swordmasters maybe 2 or 3 units of 20. And you may want to add a BSB Ld 8 and 9 allows you to still fail so its nice to have a back up

I don't like Swordmasters that much because they die very fast.With Phoenix Guard got 4+ ward.And the core is already at the min so I like the 3 25 man units when the get Charged they get 25 attacks rerolling to hit most of the time with ASF.

you might want a staff of solidity.... i just finished my first game at 1500pts and I learned what happens on double 6's. My 180pt mage, did the fury of khaine, killed 6 archers, but blew up, killed herself, and took half of my spearman unit with her. That was on turn 1, I didn't have anything that said I get to ignore my first miscast. I probably will never take a mage and not take a staff of solidty or not field teclis which has that built in.

I would drop the archmage and one of the nobles and add Teclis and make the other noble a BSB. Teclis is a far better mage than the archmage and for only 145pts more. You get a dispel scroll, D3 power dice each turn, ignore the first miscast on every first spell you cast, and can know all 6 spells of any lore and can choose any lore before the game starts. BSB's are a must have this edition you really want these guys.

No I don't like special characters Because I know every High Elf list will have him.If I'm going to win I want it to be with a different list then everyone else.Makes it more fun.Plus what would I get rid of for him that.BSB are not that good with leadership 8 and 9 for most of my army.

BSB's are critical in 8th Edition. The rerolls for all leadership tests makes those Ld 8 tests so much more reliable.

I would strongly suggest dropping at least one RBT to get two Great Eagles. You NEED something fast to drop enemy warmachines (if this is Ard Boyz, you WILL see them) and RBTs just aren't quite capable of doing it on their own.

Personally, if I were running a Combat Prince, I would give him Vambraces, AoC and a regular Great Weapon. You lose the killing blow but have a much greater chance for survival.

If you're not going to run a Book of Hoeth Archmage, I would advise gettng a second caster in the army to help cast more buffs around your army. PG's 4+ Wards are nice, but they're still only T3. Lore of Life is rather nice for the elves.

Honestly, I would drop the two regular nobles in favor of a BSB and a second mage. Nobles are too pricey for T3 and low armor saves.
