Anyone got any tacics I can use against the Tau? I keep getting beat by my brother and there is absolutely no way I can beat him. It's getting to be just stupid when we play becuase my army ends up getting wiped onto the floor by him. Mostly, weve been playing 1000 and 500 point games. As Ive said, I use orks and he uses Tau.

I'd rekommend punchin' 'im, and punchin' 'im in da face good an' propa!
jokes asides... what units do you have? what units does he use that you find are effective? like, which of his units are the ones hurting yours the most, and which ones are ruining your gameplan, like infiltrators or outflankers? Because without that info, the best suggestions you will get is "take x unit" or "I'd rekommend punchin' 'im, and punchin' 'im in da face good an' propa!". Outside of that, I can recommend as a general rule for orkses of unit saturation... dont take 1-2 squads of boyz in trukks, take 5-6 lots, or same with going on foot- make 'em big big squads with as many pairs of boots as you can get. Also, target saturation- if i have 6 trukks, and deploy so that only 2 of them are in the LOS of my enemy, then those two will get blown on the first turn, leaving the poor boyz to get swiss-cheesed by pretty much all their shooting. 6 trukks will cause your opponent to pick and prioritize which trukks need to die first- and trust me, i can tell you staring down at 6 trukks tends to not be pleasent! A KFF with the trucks, to give them all a coversave, is a fantastic combo- not only is the opponent forced to split his fire amongst the 6 trukks, but the coversaves makes them much more of a pain to deal with. If that KFF is in a Wagon, with its front facing the enemy, some people will even fire at the front armour of that to try take out the KFF.

This is his brother speaking
First off I don't much appreciate the punching in the face bit ;p
Anyways, he asked me to write up a list of the units we've got so here ya go.
my 500 pt list includes 4 stealth suits, 2 crisis' (commander and guard) and 2 FW's. Crisis has a plasma and missile pod each with multi-tracker.
His 500 point atm has 2 squads of boys, a squad of nobs with warboss, and 5 looters (I know I spelled them all wrong but i hate their way of spelling; it annoys me ;p0
As for the 1k i usually throw in a hammerhead, devilfish, some kroot (1-2 squads of 20 kroot with 10 hounds) and sometimes switch out the stealths with 2 more crisis suits. He has at his disposal a truck, looted wagon, dread, bikes and 3 deathcopters along with whats in his 500 point list. he will also soon be getting a megaforce if all goes well.
So I guess he could use a little list help along with tactic help. And before anyone goes and says that I have conflicting interests and could be up to no good posting this, I'm not. The more he gets help the better he does and the more fun the games are. Last game he quit out in the first turn when I wrecked his plan with my stealths killing his loota squad :(

lol i didnt mean literally, i meant thats the best ork taktik- punch 'im in da face until 'e falls down, then lay da boot in
you boys should just redeploy and go again having your army wrecked is no fun, but at least you wont redeploy like that- you will learn your mistake much quicker
would write more but just finished my shift. I slept 4 hours this weekend D:!!! Its bedtime!

It is a little-known fact that the Tau-Ork wars were sparked by Tau attempts to introduce standardized spelling all across the Galaxy.

Casual Ork lists which contain "little bit of everything" often don't do well against Tau. For an Ork player it is important to make sure that the units don't attack in successive "waves", this is a list as well as tactics issue. As Jihallah said, target saturation is the key. It is important to always have your units do something which is a direct threat, either by advancing or by shooting.
Having a poor first turn is no reason to quit, particularly objective missions often have wonky and unpredictable endings even if the first turns go terribly wrong...

Against tau orks don't need heavy melee threats such as the nob squad. Tau have very little to be feared by ork CC.
In general orks can be awesome at whatever they do, but they *need* to go all out into one specific type of army. This can be really hard to do when your overall amount of ork models isn't much so you have to play with what you've got.
Kan wall, speed freaks, mech, green tide, etc.
For 500 points get a bare-bones HQ and fill all points with boyz. Most armies have a hard time killing all the boyz an ork player can put into 500 points.
Alternatively, try and fit 2-3 deffkoptas w/ TL rokkits and buzzsaw in. These are placed at the very front of your deployment zone if you go first turn 1. They turbo-boost in their scout move to straight at the enemy (staying 12" away from enemies due to scout rules) and then your turn starts and you move them again 12" at them, shoot rokkits and assault w/ buzzsaw. There goes a vehicle. These are a good addition to most any ork list.
Though since his 500 has no vehicles you can leave them without the TL rokkits and just assault a squad of his. Can even skip the buzzsaw though you'll be in danger of being tied up for a while after you assault.
If you don't go first you leave them in reserve and outflank them.
Another possibility for 500 points is take the trukk full of boyz, take the looted wagon w/ no boom gun or skorcha, just maybe a BS to avoid getting immobilized from a weapon-destroyed result.
It's just another trukk then w/ 11 front armor instead (and not fast I think, but that's fine)
Then take the 3 deffkoptas and the bikes follow the vehicles hiding behind them.
For 1000 points...meh. Your army is too spread out to be really effective. Once you have the megaforce (they still sell it? It's not up on the site) Then I'd suggest 4 shoota boyz squads of 30 and a KFF mek. They don't all have to be shootas if you don't have em. Could always ask to proxy slugga boyz as shoota boyz. It's just wargear difference. Can be 2-2 sluggas/shootas or w/e. Might be able to fit a deffkopta in too.
Like this:
HQ: Big Mek w/ KFF-85
Troops:
30x Orks boyz(shootas)
PK Nob w/ bp
-220
30x Orks boyz(shootas)
PK Nob w/ bp
-220
30x Orks boyz(shootas)
PK Nob w/ bp
-220
30x Orks boyz(shootas)
PK Nob w/ bp
-220
Fast Attack:
1x Deffkopta
-35
Total: 1000
Overwhelm him with numbers. Sure you'll take a few blasts from the hammerhead submunitions, but you've got plenty of boyz and the cover save from KFF. (Since I didn't see him list any pathfinders to remove it)
Move and run at him every turn until you get to shoota range, then you might want to shoot the kroot squads a bit first since they have no armor saves and die easy.
But ya, go back to the general advice of pick one army style and go all out.

You must understand that for an ork a day that starts off killing something with your bare hands, and ends with those same hands being chopped off in battle, is a good one.
What's betta than one choppa? Two choppas!!! Two choppas is one more than...is one times da...IS LOTS MORE FUN!! WAAAAGH!!! |

Move fastah ya git!
Essentially I'd turbo-boost your koptas as a scout move so you're almost guaranteed to be in assault range.
Also get more trukks / looted wagons (as transports no boomgun) and a big mek with KFF to give them some survivability.
Drive them into his face & being open topped you can disembark & assault.

Don't Tau have no noses? I can't imagine the nasal manner in which they must pronounce everything would be any less annoying than the Ork manner of speak & spell.
