I'm hoping to get some thoughts on the list I am putting together for a big tournament in a few months. I am new to the game, but I think I am catching on fast to the strategy and interactions:

eGaspy 50 points +6

Nightwretch 4
Nightwretch 4
Deathjack 12

6x Bane Knights 6
6x Bane Thralls 5
Unit Attachment 3
Withershadow Combine 5

Skarlock Thrall 2
Tartarus 4
Gerlak Slaughterborn 3
Gorman Di Wulf 2
Pistol Wraith 3
Pistol Wraith 3

I will have the models in next week to begin serious playtesting this, but am fully open to suggestions and tweaks. This lists purpose is for caster killing, and more specifically against Warmachine armies. I will later put together an eDenny army for scenario play and Hordes fighting (though this list is no slouch against Hordes).

The Skarlock is the least good model here, but still... getting a free spell is not too shabby for a focus-hungry caster, especially at two points (free excarnate or parasite).

By the way, I wanted to point out a silly interaction I discovered (though I suppose some know about it): Ever had trouble on your feat turn getting a lot of models in close to a small-based caster? Try activating a couple banes before Tartarus. You lose the +2 to hit from his Curse, but there is a good chance with some positioning that you can thresher them dead and let more come in to attack afterward. Also, always remember to Puppet-master (from Combine) one of your strong solos on the feat turn to make sure you get your attack to hit. Tartarus can usually murder someone solo so long as he hits...

Please be brutal with your comments, I want to make this army as tight and powerful as possible.

Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.

I would drop the Skarlock. Only being able to cast Excarnate or Parasite means he has to get way up near the front, and he'll often die because of it. He's just not worth it IMHO with eGaspy due to the too few spells to cast.

Depending on how you run Deathjack, one Bone Chicken might be enough. He usually ends up acting as my primary Arc Node for the first half of the game, with the one Nightwretch hanging out mid/back field to move up late game when he can get LOS to a caster or other particularly useful target.

Any points you do free up I would put towards maxing out your Bane Knight unit.

In your head, screwing with your thoughts...

I agree, max out the Knights. They're such a brilliant unit when used with eGaspy; you run them towards the enemy, enemy shoots, you get closer for free, then you charge, kill stuff, get killed, and finally you bring them back with the feat and demolish the opponent's caster!
I do wonder what your reasoning for taking 2 Pistol Wraiths is... the general consensus is that they aren't that good, especially for the same cost as, say, a small unit of McThralls. Or maybe a Warwitch Siren for the free focus to your arc nodes, focus you can use to pop more clouds/other spells. Ex. If you drop both pistol wraiths you can max your knights and take 1 Siren. If you drop the Skarlock you can take a 2nd Siren, which frees up 2 Focus for a cloud.

I'm a big fan of running a trio of Machine Wraiths, never used Pistol Wraiths though. If your opponent's army does not have very much for Magical Weapons then the Machine Wraiths headed in the direction of their `Jacks really messes with their head.

Machine Wraiths seem situational, especially against the huge amount of Hordes armies in my area, so those are out right away.

I have the extra Bane Knights, so I will try that swap for two Warwitches instead of the Pistol Wraiths and Skarlock. Actually, I will test both. I still see a use for them (especially with a lack of magic on the table, they can be quite brutal), and really, other than first turn, I am really not allocating my warjacks much if any Focus after that initial run.

The bonus with pistol wraiths is they can shut down a heavy jack /beast from moving and attacking. Very few models can get around shake effects these days and death chill is almost guaranteed to work against Def 11 and less heavies.

However, I would recommend maxing out the Bane Knights for feat turn goodness, but outside of that the list seems fairly solid.
