It's a bit strange, I have seen many "I just seen/saw the new BA codex" messanges recently. Are people so unintressted in new codexes tha tit takes it this long to react? No offense towards you of course but... hm... humanity is an intressting subject.

But yeah, it's a good book, with horrible fluff and GW's new way of "peaking" a codex... With Special Characters!
I saw someone else pointing this out: I don't really want to use a special char, I want to have my captain that my mind can vaugely fantasise about that it's me and I fully agree, was one of my first thoughts when I started playing.

Cause we are playing an army, not a special char.

I hate Blood Angels. Goddamn emo space vampires.

That's all I wanted to say. I really got nothing constructive to add to the thread.

You raise an interesting point. There does seem to be an over arching emphasis in both the SM codex and the BA codex on special characters.
I try to make a list with a captain but it always comes down to.....but for a few points more I get this that and this etc.....It does seem a shame that the role of captain now seems vacant......

Garbled, confusing, and quite frankly duller than an in-flight magazine produced by Air Belgium!

No you misunderstood me. I was only saying that cause Alpharius made it sound like he was locking the thread thats all.

I do like the special characters but I do also agree with you. But I still do run Librarians and Captains regardless cause they don't cost nearly as much and are still effective in the game. For instance I LOVE the emperors champion model. I bought one and am in the middle of converting him to a Blood Angel captain.

Even with the abundance of special characters, you can still have your own character.

They immediately began performing much better.

They took regular Chaplains out of the HQ slot. They are now under elites which gives you more of a chance to field a Captain

Yeah, but you can still take a Chaplain as an HQ, it's just called Reclusarch which is a Chaplain with a buffed stat line.

EDIT: Ugh. Nevermind you said regular. I didn't read it all the way

Yeah, I know. Thats why I said regular Chaplains. The Reclusiarch is an additional 30 pts but you get I +1, BS +1, A +1 and W +1. Its worth the points but if youre looking for the fluff the Chaplain provides the same special rules

Finally! a kindred spirit. I absolutley have no use or desire to play with SC's. I think the idea of their being in a little game (standard 40K game) is silly, and it gets old seeing Kharn or some such rampaging through 15 units with seeming impunity. The SM characters totally take it too far with that little paragraph that says ANY army can use any SC now. So there isn't even a downside anymore. Whatever army you want can have whatever special rules you want because instead of being He'stan of the Salamanders he's actually "Butch Flammenwerfer" of the How Slimey Can I Make it Chapter.

40K pronunciation guide. Abaddon = [uh - BAD -done], Belial = [bee - LEEL] (I promise), and chimera = [KY - murr - uh]

I'm sure its perfectly fine to use an awesome captain that you put together yourself i have one also. I agree that letting any SM chapter use any SM SC is kinda sketchy for the sake of the fluff but in reality I really don't care what a person uses in their army as long as it doesn't make the game completely one sided. I am the main SM player among the group of people I normally play with and I have never tried to use this rule to my advantage I only want a straight up fun game with no crap. And some of the SC are pretty cool for instance I play BA and I love the Sanguinor he is a great fig, a bit expensive but well worth it if used right. But then again back to your main point I only use SC made for my specific army so I suppose I understand where you are coming from.

FOR SANGUINIUS AND THE EMPEROR!
