My interest is primarily Chameleon Skinks, but it could probably apply to other Special/Rare units as well. Since you are no longer limited on the # of choices, but rather a % of points system, would you rather have one larger unit, or multiple small units. IE, one unit of 10 Chameleon, or two units of 5?

All depends. A 10man unit isn't a large unit.

A 5man unit taking 2 casualties has to take a leadership test with skink's bad leadership.

I think 10man might be much better for chameleon skinks.

Bloodgod, quick reminder here, but the LD would be boosted by a general in most cases.
Not only that, but cold blooded means they wont run away very often.

Also, ive yet to test to any extent, but i like the idea of using cheap skirmish units to gain attention and drop in the way.

10 gutter runners arent too cheap, but its a price im willing to pay to make sure i dont get chaos knights charge my stormvermin.

Sure enough the unit isnt as tough when in low numbers, but 2 units supporting eachother offers alot more movement options, and can also avoid overkill burning through a large unit.
Something like the 13th spell from skaven on average kills off 14 models, in units of 10, its gone, but with 2 units of 5 you lose 5 at the most.
Granted, thats a 25+ spell, but even the basic magic missiles will do alot of damage to large units due to auto hits.

I don't think putting units in the way would help, since the Knights could just charge and kill them, then plow on thru to the unit behind.
