I'm hopeful that with 8th, "Daemons" will stop being a dirty word, and I can get back into Fantasy.

With that in mind, and with a couple practice games under my belt, I'm going to try the following this week:

Daemon Prince of Tzeentch: Level 2, Dark Magister, Master of Sorcery (Life), Unnatural Swiftness
Herald of Tzeentch: Master of Sorcery (Beasts)
Herald of Slaanesh: Siren Song, BSB
Herald of Slaanesh: Siren Song

20 Daemonettes, Full Command, Stubborn banner
20 Daemonettes, Full Command, Stubborn banner
20 Horrors, Full Command w/Changeling

3 Flamers
3 Flamers

I'm torn on the DP - I suspect he won't be a good long-term investment, but he seems like a good way to explore the new magics for a bit, at least until I run into an Empire army that reminds me why he shouldn't be there. And ASF on a WS 8, Init 7 model with 5 attacks is lovely.

Otherwise, should play as it looks - Heralds go in their respective units, and Siren Song is available to either force some early failed charges (e.g., march forward 10" on turn 1, stopping 14" from some M4 models, and force them to try to roll a 10+), or to pull units into unwise situations (e.g., march forward 12" on turn 1, force some M5 mage-bunker elves to rush forward into stubborn Daemonettes, and hit them in the flank on turn 2 with the other block).

I like the looks of both Beasts and Life - lots of good augments in there.

*edit: Yes, I posted this in the wrong forum. I've already asked for corrective measures from Dakka's benevolent masters.

Not sure if daemons are getting any less hated in 8th so far as most of the lists I've seen or made have been shunned non-believer style in pretty short order. But here's my two cents.

First off I like the list, I feel like people dont use DPs enough... and the new lores are way sweet. On another note, where are you putting the DP? Is he running solo or in the horrors?

I'd say get some anti-warmachine goodness, since as you said empire (and skaven and dwarfs) will bring some pain. Maybe some Furies or a couple fiends.

As for getting the points i'd say 2 lvl 2's will prolly cover your magic phase. Especially with 6 spells a piece, so maybe cut your horrors down a bit.

New plan - I want to try a) large units of Fiends; and b) fewer characters. So, this:

Herald of Slaanesh: General, Siren Song, Torment Blade
Herald of Slaanesh: BSB, Siren Song
Herald of Tzeentch: Master of Sorcery(Life), Spellbreaker

20 Daemonettes, Full Command, Stubborn Banner
20 Daemonettes, Full Command
30 Horrors, Full Command + The Changeling
10 Bloodletters

6 Fiends
4 Flamers

I suspect Beast lore is better for my purposes, but I want to try Life this week.

What's the plan for the 10 bloodletters? Seems like you might be better served with more flamers and daemonettes.

6 fiends sounds pretty brutal. Although losing an attack from the back rank is a shame.

Sweet list though

Personally, I think that you need some more hard hitting units - ie. Khorne. I think that 10 Bloodletters isn't really enough. I'd recommend a Herald with at least 20 Bloodletters. Other than that though, its a very versatile list, and has the potential to be quite an effective list if used correctly.

I'm actually maxed on Rare - Fiends are expensive! So no more flamers.

The little Bloodletter unit is a heavy cav discouragement tool - at I4, they strike before/at the same time as most heavy cav, and Killing Blow in 2 ranks gives me a shot at dropping a couple, without sinking a lot of points in. But I'm giving serious thought to just adding another rank to both Daemonette units - T3, 5+ ward save drops pretty quickly to the slings and arrows of unjust fortune, and I hate to loose critical mass so quickly.

Tzentch is an odd army for me, I prefer all Khorne as it is a close combat specialist army I wanted to know if you are allowed a Khorne bloodletter unit with out a Khorne leader in a Tzentch army what about the Hatred rule did that go away? Its a nice force but was just wondering in WHFB I normally play an old world Brittonia type merc force from Dogs of War.

They weren't terribly explicit, but I saw that too (which is why I don't have 2 stubborn banners in the second list). Kind of a bummer for the Bloodletter-spamming lists, though.

I like the second list with the fiends! I think the bloodletters look a little out of place, too, but I don't know enough to suggest what to add to them / replace them with.

"Q: Are upgrades bought for characters from army specific lists
which aren’t magic items or equipment (such as Vampiric Powers or
Deamonic Gifts) special rules? (p66)
A: Yes, unless specifically stated otherwise in an entry."

That shows that it doesn't count as a magic item. it is a special rule.

read the Daemon FAQ. It states, (i cant quote right now as work blocks GW) that magic standards for the Daemon Army count as magic items. The quote above has no bearing on the question, it is refering to stackable abilities not specifically mentioned in the BRB.

I presume you mean:

"Page 95 - Daemonic Icons
Add “Daemonic Icons are Magic Standards.” to the start of the
first paragraph."

Is this a rule that prevents you from talking multiples??

I feel your pain. But since the absurd cost of the Keeper keeps him/her/it from coming out to play below 3000 pts, I don't have enough of the crab-clawed 5e Daemonettes to go full Slaanesh.

It's hard to put together a sizable & effective army, if you're limited to 2 Lords, 1 Hero, 1 Core, 1 Special, and 1 Rare.
