Ok, tell me what you guys think:

The Cadian 177th Mechanised is composed of the survivors of the Cadian 177th and the Cadian 117th and is currently en route to the Ryza War Zone

-Cadian 177th
Was founded during the 13th Black Crusade
-Repelled Chaos Assaults at Spaceport Nyrame
-Rotated out of the front lines and was resupplied then assumed reserve duty
-Deployed to Hyghorus III to suppress a Rebellion
-After Rebellion was suppressed, assumed garrison duty on the planet for two years
-Is sent to the Merak waystation to merge with the survivors of the Cadian 117th
-Deployed to the Ryza Warzone

-Cadian 117th
Re-Founded prior to the 13th Black Crusade
-Assumed training detail of the PDF forces on Vlerik IV
-Deployed to the Ultima Segmentum to reinforce the recently raided Fortress World of Vilamus of the Marines' Errant
-While en route, the 6th Cadian Fleet became trapped in a Warp Storm, while Daemons were deposited onboard the ships of the fleet
-Fought for 2 months alongside the Adeptas Sororitas (SOB) of the Order of the Sacred Rose, Regiment was reduced to less than 25% until the fleet was able to break out of the Warpstorm thanks to the twice wounded fleet Astropath and the 4 Psykers of the 98th Brimlock Dragoons.
-Is sent to the Merak waystation to merge with the survivors of the Cadian 177th
-Deployed to the Ryza Warzone

(My army is sometimes allied with witchhunters, which is why they are included in the fluff, and we HATE chaos, we practically hunt them for sport)

nice start with the fluff. An army without fluff is an army without a soul.

Seems like a good start to me! It is obvious you have put a lot of thought into your backstory. You mentioned this is a mechanised regiment, so maybe you could include some sort of mobile warfar exploits in the list?

Not much choice really, if you rely on infantry too much you get slaughtered quickly.
I ran my guard army in 7 games trying to prove an all Infantry list would work, I had my ups and downs but I came to the conclusion that tanks with infantry is a better idea

strange.
I never run mech guard. so far I around 50 games with them. and only lost around 16 of them. all with standard infantry. don't just run vets squads in inf guard. run a lot of normal guards with a lot of missile launchers and lascannons.
