Ok, so rooting through my stuff, I've decided to use what mini's I have to make a somewhat decent 8th ed list, although still pretty cav heavy since I have 15 Knights.

Anyway, here's what I'm thinking.

Chaos Lord, MoK, Chaos Runesword, Talisman of Preservation, Juggernaught

Sorceror, MoT, Level 2, Disc, Dispel Scroll

Sorceror, MoT, Level 2, Scepter of Stability

18 Warriors (3 ranks of 6) Full Command, MoT, Shields

18 Warriors (3 ranks of 6) Full Command, MoT, Shields

18 Warriors (3 ranks of 6) Full Command, MoT, Shields

5 Knights, Musician, Standard, MoK

5 Knights, Musician, Standard, MoK

5 Knights, Musician, Standard, MoK

2499pts.

I feel I really should have a BSB in there, but not really sure what I should swap out or change. I'm also debating whether or not I should swap the MoK for MoN on two of the Knights units.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I don't know how viable it is, but pulling the three units of Knights together to make one 15 man block with MoK and Musician/Standard saves you nearly 100 points. Remove the Runesword from the Lord and you should be just about at an exalted with BSB. Maybe pull the disc off one sorc...

At anyrate, if you dump your Lord in with the 15 strong chaos knights you will have a unit that can run 8x2 and deny rank bonuses while smashing flanks. Possibly not ideal (I would want some big blocks of marauders to really hold the enemy by the nose) but you could have quite a powerful little flanking force.
Alternately, make 1 10 man unit and 5 man of knights if the points allow, and have two small flankers, one of which can negate ranks on the flank attack, while the other just supports while throwing in some damage and taking nearly nothing in return.

Also keep in mind that your lord on the jugger won't get a look out sir roll because he's not classed as the same type of unit as the knights. The jugger lord is classed as monstrous cav. This makes him susceptible to warmachine fire from cannons, stone throwers and bolt throwers.

While I realize the book uses Juggers as an example of Monstrous Cav (within the context of a Daemon army) Does not the WoC book contain specific exemptions stating that Juggers are Cav?

In the back of the brb under the WoC army summary it classes it as monstrous. I don't think it does specify what unit type it is in the WoC book. There weren't sub-classes of infantry and cavalry in the previous edition. Thats something that will have to be checked.

Found it, page 54 of the WoC book.

It mentions that they are cavalry, but the new BRB classifies them as monstrous cavalry since none of the 7th edition rulebooks specifically state what kind each unit is.

I think your army list is very good. I've seen that you've decided to take advantage of the Hand Weapon and Shield + MoT to give you a 5+ Ward Save. This would make your units very resilient. One thing you might want to consider though is adding Blasted Standard and/or Banner of Rage to your Warriors. This would give them a nice 4+ Ward Save against shooting, or Frenzy with a still decent Ward Save (remember you don't have to move towards the nearest enemy unit if you pass a Ld. test).

Right. So I look at it this way. In the case of the WoC army book, it tells you what sort of "main" unit type is and then you would have to look in the brb to find out what "sub-type" it is to get the full picture. In my mind its very clear that a jugger lord is monstrous cav and would not benefit from a look out sir roll in a unit of knights.

Frenzied troops don't get the hand weapon + shield ward save. I'd go 2 hand weapons with Mark of Khorne and go 6 wide units.

Against an opponent with an armor save of 5 or better, the Halberd scores more kills than the 2nd hand weapon. In mathhammer (6 wide, 2 ranks), the halberd will kill 10.9 Empire swordsmen vs 2nd hand weapon killing 9.0. The results come out even for killing Empire spearmen. Probably would favor the 2nd hand weapon for fighting a T2 opponent - but you have other problems if your warriors are stuck in a tar pit.

In my 2 games of 8e, I found the frenzied warrior with halberd vastly superior to the TZ warrior with hand weapon and shield. The killing power of the frenzy/halberd far outweighed the defensive bonus of the shield/parry.
