My local store is running a 500pt RTT next month and I am trying to put together a list. I haven't played at that level in a long time, so trying to get a list together that I like is proving to be difficult.

They are using the Adepticon Combat Patrol rules/restrictions. The restrictions on the lists are as follows:

• You must have one Troop choice.
• You may have one HQ choice, but no more than one. Note that an HQ
choice is optional.
• Armies are not required to take mandatory unit choices.
All other unit restrictions (i.e. 0-1) apply.
• You may spend remaining points from anywhere in the
Codex.
• No model can have more than 2 Wounds (except models
with Swarm universal special rule).
• Psykers may be used, but may NOT use any power
requiring a psychic test.
• No model can have a 2+ save.
• No Special/Unique/Named Characters are allowed in the
Combat Patrol event.
• No vehicles with a total Armour value greater than 33. This
is calculated by adding the Front, Side and Rear armour
numbers. (Only count the Side once).

This makes the Tau army look pretty impossible, but there might be something I could do.

My favorite list so far is Eldar:
3 Guardian Jetbikes with Shuriken Cannon
Warlock on Jetbike with Embolden

3 Guardian Jetbikes with Shuriken Cannon
Warlock on Jetbike with Embolden

2 War Walkers with Scatter Lasers

2 War Walkers with Scatter Lasers

This gives me a ton of firepower to take out tanks and troops, while also providing good mobile troops that can grab objectives. If I need they aren't terrible in assault as long as the target is weakened.

Another Eldar list:
4 Harlequins with Kisses
Shadowseer with Kiss
Troupe Master with Power Weapon

5 Rangers

5 Rangers

2 War Walkers with Scatter Lasers

Decent long range firepower, but with the added distraction of a nasty assault unit. Not as mobile for troops, but the ability to outflank or infiltrate can make up for it.

Now for the Tau.
2 Crisis Suits with Plasma Rifles, Missile Pods and Multi-tracker
2 Crisis Suits with Plasma Rifles, Missile Pods and Multi-tracker
2 Crisis Suits with TL-Missile Pods and Targeting Array
10 Kroot
Piranha with Fusion Gun

This really feels like the best list possible for Tau. It has a lot of firepower, and decent mobility, but the single troop unit really worries me. I don't think that even outflanking with them would give me much chance.

At this level I really think that the Eldar provide the better options. Really it boils down to the troops. Tau troops just don't really provide a lot of options, and with only a single troop then objective games will be quite tricky.

Any thoughts?

The mobility of the first eldar list is unprecedented by the other lists that you have provided. If no model can have more than two wounds then you should not have a problem taking out your opponent with scatter lasers. You could do two things:
1. In objective games destroy your opponents scoring units
2. Use your jetbikes to cap objectives quickly.

The lack of scoring with the Tau would mean that your weak kroot would take a beating. You would have to table your opponent or lock them down turn one to take your kroot to the objective and contest the other ones.

I think you're going to have to take eldar on this one. You may have some problems against the space marine player but other than that you will be ok.

Yeah, Marines and their variants are my biggest concern. They have tough troops that can provide a decent amount of firepower that is a huge advantage at this level.

I believe that with the scatter laser twin link you are going to be ok. just make sure you prioritize correctly.
