Although GW intended to limit scroll caddies because we can only carry 1 dispel scroll, level 1 scroll caddies have found new offensive power with the Feedback scroll, Sivejir's hex scroll and the power scroll. Imagine your opponent's level 4 vampire count throwing 6 dice down to cast some wondrous spell. Whether he gets IF or not you counter with the feedback scroll. On the average he will take 2 wounds and if he miscasts then a better than 50% of a third wound. 50 points could equal a dead vampire lord on the first turn. On the other hand a necromancer summons some skeletons by rolling 2 or 3 dice and rolls doubles (1/6 chance when rolling 2 dice so once per game on the average) and your second level 1 scroll caddy whips out his Power scroll and turns that spell into an IF and miscast hopefully ending that magic phase if not wounding one or more models. Finally, your third scroll caddy plays his Sivenjir's hex scroll and there is a 2/3 chance his level 2 Necromancer is now an undead toad. Just to add insult to injury I think GW needs to make some toad wizard figures that we can use to substitute for transformed magic users. I'm imagining a toad with a pointy hat that has stars on it. Goblin shamen are 55 points each so 165 points for 3 and 135 points for scrolls. If you do this a couple of times, just the fear of your opponent having these scrolls could shut down magic phases until 9th edition comes out in 4 years.

But aren't they all 1 use, so it only shuts down 1 magic phase?
unless you have like 1 wizard

1st, you cant use a power scroll after the fact. You use it before the spell is cast.

With the hex scroll, Yeah it can be decent, but with a level 4 you have only a 33% chance of making him a toad.

The feedback scroll isnt bad, but it requires that your opponents throw a brick of dice to be usefull, and any smart opponent who knows that there could possibly be a feedback scroll wont throw a brick...

The biggest problem with all these is that it LETS THE SPELL GO OFF, and you cannot attempt to dispell it. With how brutal magic is you can rarely afford that...

Also with a horde of level one wizards your looking at like 300-400 points just in magic defense...

Yes, I don't think most people will do this- for one, it's not fun to spend such a large chunk of points just on magic defense, not offense (although, of course some offense is basically built in for "free" with the Winds of Magic). You're spending enough points, that you could take losses from magic and buy no wizards and still come out ahead instead. Also, with some (all? I need to check) of these items letting spells go off, you're not really even defending!

Personally, I don't see people taking more than one "scroll caddy", and that won't be their only purpose now- they also can serve as a back-up caster in case your big one blows himself up
