I'm from the future. The future of space

So I decided I want to start a Chaos army. I don't really like WFB or 40k and while I'm going to start with daemons, I plan on getting mortals and beasts as well.

For rules I'm going to be using Warmachine. Specifically, I'll be making a counts as Khador army.

First thing I did was take a Bloodletter and see how it looks on the 30mm Warmachine Style Bases. I think it works. I already went back and scraped the mould line I missed that the pictures so clearly show.

The next thing I'm going to work on is converting two of my plastic Khador jacks from Grind to be more chaos like. Unfortunately (I think, I'm not sure if it'll actually matter) I already primed them. I also have some plastic heavy jack weapon arms that I traded a friend for. So one will be made into a Juggernaut and the other a Marauder. I may also convert up one of them to have swappable arms to be a Kodiak.

I pulled out some left over Chaos Marauder bitz. One of my friends has a ton of chaos bitz in his bitz box, so I'll probably raid that on the weekend. But here's what I have so far.

Couple of faces skin-stretched zombie drums
2 skull standards
1 banner standard
Chains/hooks/bells from flails and zombie parts
Severed heads
Chaos should pad.
Fur cloaks/hangings

Not a lot to go on, so it looks like putty will be broken out. Any thoughts on the best way to use the bitz I do have?

Small Update:

Thought I'd try this for the head:

I grabbed one of the Marauder standard bearer bitz and cut it down into a skeletal head:

Here's a shot of it on one of the jacks:

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

That... looks badass in the extreme. And the bloodletter really does look like it was designed for that base size, honestly.

(EDIT: Score 2 for the Master! 1st to suggest a P&M blog, 1st to post in it. Damn I'm on fire today! )

I added a bunch of bitz to it. All that's left is to wait until my eyes are fresh to clean up minor things and to make green-stuff khorne symbols on the top plate and on the forearm plates. Then the painting can begin.

That looks awesome, and I'm seriously considering stealing your idea for the head to use with my Cryx... I am noticing a lack of MASSIVE CHAOS STAR, you planning on freehanding it? (Because there has to be a chaos star on it somewhere... )

I simply don't have an appropriate bit yet. So it'll probably be greenstuffed on along with the Khorne symbol. Maybe when I visit my friend on Saturday, he'll have something in his bitz box.

For the Marauder, I wanted it to be a bit more subtle. So no trophy rack on the front of it. I lowered it's khorne symbol down a bit. I think the head looks better without the side spikes.

I added some chains to each arm and some minor details.

Both jacks on the move:

Very nice. Great usage of bitz.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Thanks guys. It's shocking under photo what you can see in terms of missed mould lines and fuzzies from scraping and whatnot.

I'm still debating what direction to go with this army. All daemons? A big mix of mortals, daemons and beasts? I think minotaurs with big shotguns would make pretty cool ManOWar Shock Troopers. Chaos Warriors with halberds/spears would be a good fit for Iron Fang Pikemen. After all, it was the Chaos Warriors on 30mm round bases that inspired this project. I could grab a box of those and turn them into IFP with an officer and standard bearer. Knights would also be a good way to go. GW's cavalry looks surprisingly cool on round bases (see LOTR cav).

I have a mechanic unit (pictured here: Leader & Assistants. The question is do I try to convert them up to be chaos-mechanics or ebay and replace them with something like a cyber-daemon mechanic or chaos dwarf mechanics?

Any thoughts on what they'd need to be chaos enough if I kept them?

Looking good! i think you might want to do some sort of edges on the armour plates (looks quite dull now) kinda like the chaos warhound titan from forgeworld but smaller.

Yeah, the khador warjacks aren't the most involved miniatures. Mostly just round plates. I'm thinking just one edge trim added on the sides of the top plate might be just what it needs.

I was at my friends but totally forgot to go through his bitz box. I likely won't be there again until next weekend. I really want to get the jacks finished and start painting, but I guess I'll prime up and start painting the bloodletter to get a test colour scheme instead.

I also found a pretty cool demon miniature in my local store's discount bin. I also found a metal hellblade and a bloodletter head in their bitz bin, so it looks like I'll be converting up my own Skulltaker rather than getting the GW one.

I'm still not sure of what direction to go. Unit of Bloodletters as Doomreavers, but then do I add more or do I start with some Chaos Warriors as IFP, or Chaos Knights as Uhlans, or a few Gors as Manhunters? Daemonettes as Kayazy?

Do I stick with all Khornate or go Undivided? Stick with daemons or add beasts and mortals?

Sweet, thanks. I never would have found that on my own...

Anyway I think sticking with Khorne will allow you to keep a common theme for your army. Whether you want to stay all daemonic or not seems limited by the amount of models in Khorne's repertoire (sp?) but I think your original idea of using models from across the Chaos spectrum (still Khornate of course) seems like a perfectly good idea. I imagine the original daemon prince model might find a suitable place in your army... (Beast-09 perhaps?)

In fact, going by gods gives me a grand idea. What if later on you wanted to make other armies? Tzeentch seems like a perfect match for Cygnar. Colorwise they match perfectly, and thematically the most ranged-leaning army=the spellcasting god. Cryx tickles your fancy? I'd like to introduce you to Nurgle! Spraying acid/bodily fluids? Check. Undead? Check. Bloat Thralls/Bile Thralls? No conversion needed. And if you ever decided to go for Menoth, imagine if they started getting slightly different messages from their god. The ultimate perversion of their strict discipline. Slaanesh is calling to you... Can you hear the beautiful sound?
Colorwise, light pink isn't too far of a stretch from white, so the color-coordination is still sound. No idea where you could go for Ret or Mercs, but the 4 Chaos Gods cover the 4 original factions almost perfectly.

Of course that's just me thinking waaay too far ahead. Maybe I've given you some ideas though.

You've given me excellent ideas.

My friend was playing Menoth a few days ago and I finished my game early and watched his finish. I suddently thought the choir would look particularly awesome with the menofex removed and a chaos icon put in its place.

I think I will stick mostly Khornate. But I'm still going to include some shooting stuff as Khorne used to be about all martial pride, not just being a loony with a pointy stick.

This is a great looking idea. I second the call for Chaos stars. If your friend doens't have any, PM me. I'm sure I can scrape up the sixty-something cents to send you a couple.

Well I mean it would hardly be Khador without a few MASSIVE CANNONS, now would it?

Sorry about the lack of updates. I've been busing with renovations and stuff and waiting to get at my friend's bitz.

Next time I do a flurry of activity on them, I'll take lots of pictures along the way and then spread them out over time.

Well, it's not going to happen.

I keep playing Warmachine and finding I feel bored after each game is done, win or lose.

I think I'm growing disatisfied by these prepackaged rules + miniatures games. And while I'm breaking that a bit here with using GW and PP stuff together, the whole rules approach for Warmchine is based on model sales and what's available now.

I was already bored enough with the game that I had to find something interesting to do with it by combining GW Chaos with Khador. I didn't realize that at the time, I was doing it because I saw no real value in GW nor PP's offerings and tried to cobble together something I liked from both.

I'm just bored with such complete package gaming. I posted a thread about it here, but I'm going to shelve this project and start eBaying a good portion of my Warmachine stuff.

That's a damn shame... I had high hopes for this army. I guess it won't be stealing if I were to use that Juggernaut idea now though.
