So I finally caved and will be starting up WHFB. I'll be picking up two boxes of the new starter and going halvsies with a friend that is playing Skaven. I don't care for the Griffons though so I'll be picking up a mage box to make the following list at 750 pts. Keep in mind I have never even seen the rules at this point since I'll be waiting to get my rulebook from the starter.

Mage lvl 2 w/ Silver Wand and Guardian Phoenix

20 Sea Guard with Shields, Musician, and Standard Bearer

10 Swordmasters with Musician and Standard Bearer

5 Reavers with Bows, Musician, and Standard Bearer


Models I'll have to work with (most likely):
Mage on Foot
Mage on Horse
20 Sea Guard
20 Swordmasters
10 Reavers

Pros/Cons? Tear it apart

The Boxset will come with a Mage on foot, so no need to buy one!

Drop the Standard for the Reavers. They really shouldn't be getting into situations where they'll need a banner.

For the sake of saving some points, you may also just want to drop the Swordmaster's SB just in case they get shot up.

By my count, you're at 725 (if you drop the Reaver SB). May as well use the remaining points to get unit champs for the LSG and Swordmasters.

Looks like a decent starter list - though I will recommend you take Lore of Life to buff those swordmasters and/or heal them back up.

Thanks a bunch for the info. Coming from 40k I didn't really see the perk to the extra points spent on Champions. Is there rules that make them useful beyond just 1 more attack?

Well, one more attack, but there's also the challenge system that can help keep your Heroes alive sometimes, or just prevent an enemy Hero from slaughtering a bunch of your Rank and File.

Ah kk well that would make all the difference then. Can't wait to dig into the rules ;D
