Drop Trooper with Demo Charge

British Columbia, Canada

Hello everyone! This will be my first army and I want to be able to break it down so that I can use it in any game from 2500 Points down to say 1000 or 1500 without having to buy much more although I understand that I will have to buy a low cost HQ for smaller games. This is really just a starting point. I understand that this is not even close to being finished. Any input is appreciated. Thanks everyone. Now, to strategy. My plan here is to place all of my pods right on top of the opposing player's units first turn. I figure that the three Furioso Dreads along with 10 Close Combat Death Company will be able to hold his or her attention while approach with my main force.

Blood Angels Mechanized List

HQ:

Mephiston: (Land Raider Crusader) = 250 Pts

Elites:

6 Man Terminator Assault Squad: (Land Raider Crusader, Thunder Hammers and Storm Shields) = 270 Pts

Furioso Dreadnought: (Drop Pod) = 125 Pts

Furioso Dreadnought: (Drop Pod) = 125 Pts

Furioso Dreadnought: (Drop Pod) = 125 Pts

Troops:

10 Man Tactical Squad (Rhino) = 90 Pts

10 Man Tactical Squad (Rhino) = 90 Pts

10 Man Tactical Squad (Rhino) = 90 Pts

10 Man Tactical Squad (Rhino) = 90 Pts

10 Man Tactical Squad (Rhino) = 90 Pts

10 Man Death Company (Drop Pod) = 200 Pts

Dedicated Transports:

Land Raider = 250 Pts

Rhino = 50 Pts

Rhino = 50 Pts

Rhino = 50 Pts

Rhino = 50 Pts

Drop Pod = 35 Pts

Drop Pod = 35 Pts

Fast Attack:

Baal Predator: (Heavy Bolter Side Sponsons) = 145 Pts

Thanks again!

I think all of your points are all funky.

First off. It's against the rules to list the points of models like you are.

Secondly I think you have the point values wrong on some of them. The Tacticals are 90 for 5 of them (not 10), it's almost double more points for 5 more.

It's a pretty solid lookings core "idea" for an army though. I like seeing Mephiston with a group of people whooping up. Why not try to field him with a crap ton of Assault marines (give them LR as dedicated transport to get the discount) instead of the Terminators?

Dreadnought spam is always fun, as long as the opponent isn't totally prepared for it.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Maybe you could put some weapons on the DC team, and attach Mephiston to it instead of putting him in a LR. You could then fill the LR with a large group of members and mix up the target saturation even more.

I see Mephiston wanting to get into action asap.

Congrats on starting an ambitious army!

OK critique from a fellow newbie.

Mephiston is like Tigurius, he looks cool in the codex, but when it comes to gaming he's still a power armoured librarian who can die from a lascannon.
My advice is ditch him and take a Terminator armoured librarian with storm shield to accompany your TH/SS terminators. Best with Might of Heroes and Unleash Rage as Epistolary.

Nothing wrong at all with the Terminator squad.

Furioso Dreadnoughts. You can only take 2. so that gives you 125 points back.
Upgrade a Furioso to a Librarian and take advantage of a mega armoured librarian on the field!
Upgrade other Furioso with extra gear. I'll leave the selection to you.

TROOPS

Your points on the tac squads are TOTALLY out. 10 man squads cost 170 points each BEFORE giving them assault/special weapons.

Your tac squads are all bolters. so they can't take out heavy armour or monstrous creatures.
Your Death Company is all bolter/chainsword. so same problem.

Dedicated Transports.
You can't take a Land Raider as a transport if it's not transporting anyone. I don't think you can put Librarian on his own in a Land raider.
(drop a Rhino and Tac squad and get yourself some more TH/SS terminators to go in land raider)

FAST ATTACK

Baal Predators.
I'd seriously consider changing these for normal predators as you're lacking long range firepower. But at least you're taking two of them.

good luck with the army.
I'll do a comparison list with how i'd do it in next post.

Well, the list looks awful.
Tactical squads have no place in a BA army.
If you want drop pods then take an odd number of it.

I agree tactical squads are kind of defunct in a BA list. but was trying to go as much with his original list as possible.

OK total rethink of a 2500 list time.

If you're going to do a BA list then Descent of Angels is your main concern. only scattering a maximum of 6" means this is really the only army that can be all Deep Strike AND work.

Several points

1. Mephiston can not take a dedicated Transport. Not sure if that is what you mean when you put (Landraider) by him or not. But I might have misread that

2. You have 4 Elites, you can only have 3 (very surprised no one else mentioned this)

3. The points you have listed are for 5 man tact squads.

All in all not a good list. You need to drop some of the tacts, and increase the size of the others, and add some weapons either power weapons, or power fist to the squads.

The death company really needs a few power weapons, and at least one fist. Since you can not controll them, you can very easily get in combat with a dread or MC, and then they are toast.

As to some of the advice others have given you, Mephiston can take any weapon and like it. His high enough T allows him to not be ID by range weapons. Also he can not be attached to another squad. He is not an IC, so he can not ride along with another squad.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also Assault squads make a better Mech list since they get the discount on transports.

You are completely wrong on this point.

Also Just because you mention something does not mean others are banned from making the same comment to show the importantance of it.

As to the elites, you never mentioned you can only have 3 elites, just only 2 Dreads which is not true. He can have 3 dreads if he drops the termie squad. While we kind of said the same thing I at least explained why.

I understand this list was pretty bad. I've come up with some decent ones but this one was really an attempt to replicate a Salamanders list I thought of. I'll post a proper list tomorrow. Thanks for your help so far everyone.

Salamanders are played differently.
You have to exploit the strength of the new Blood Angels.

Pah. Baal Predators are nice. but only if you get to 24" away! not good when you've got lascannons and multi-meltas and battle cannons facing you!

Cool idea though.

Multi-Meltas have the same 24" range. Battle Cannons are only Str 8, and if the drif too much they do nothing. Also Baals can outflank or get the free 18" move before turn one.

Board is only 48" Accross. 12" Deployment, 24" range of gun, 6" move (to fire everything) leaves only 6" from the board edge and that is if the deploy along the back line, and not counting the size of the tank itself. Add in the free move of 18" and you can reach anything.

On Dakka he was Eldanar. In our area, he was Lee. R.I.P., Lee Guthrie.

This is the revised list based mainly off of Corennus' proposed list. It leaves me with 115 Points left to spend. I'm still not sure what to give my sergeants as I'm new to 40k and although I have Codex: Blood Angels I have yet to buy the rulebook. Thanks for your help so far guys. Now, on to the list itself.

The librarian dread is a huge point sink that dies to one melta shot to the face... Drop him for a Furioso with Blood Talons. The points you have left over should go towards Sanguinary Priests so you can juice your squads. The assault squads should have power fists. I would swap one of the landraiders for a Stormraven so you can get one terminator squad into assault as fast as possible.

I can't take Sanguinary Priests as I already have 3 Elite choices. I also have 75 Points left over. Should I change the Dreadnought back to a Librarian and then spend my last few points on some minor upgrades? I would also like someone elses opinion on whether my Librarian in terminator armor should ride in the Stormraven or the Landraider.

On the other hand I could simply drop the Dreadnought. Seeing as I wouldn't need his pod that would free up a lot of points.
